SOOO Excited!

So my husband and I have been feeling stuck.
Like nothing we do was doing any good to get us ahead.
He was struggling to complete his degree because the grant doesn't cover more than a few classes at a time, and with working full time he can't do many classes.
So his degree has been taking forever.

I want to get liscensed as a nurse (to start), but I don't qualify for loans or grants (weird stuff there) so for me to go to school was turning into waiting for him to finish school, make more money, so we can afford to pay out of pocket for my school.

We are in Portland, a city we really do not like (sorry Portland people).
His job is laying people off right now and we are unsure of his future at his company.
His job does not offer health insurance that we can afford (close to $1000 a month).

So we have been in a rut.
We want a fresh slate, a way to start over and try again, get our degrees and actually start moving forward.

So! He is joining the Navy!!!!

As some of you know, I was in the Navy about 10 years ago, and my brother, and several of my relatives, both of his grandfathers and his Uncle have all been in the Navy.
I LOVE the Navy, I believe it is the greatest branch of the military that exists.

I am SUPER excited!
He has started working out, he wants to wait until he can pass the Physical Fitness Test they give in the beginning before he even talks to a recruiter.
We also have to pay to alter one of his tattoos first, not appropriate.
But yea!
In about 3 months (my guess) he will be sitting down with a recruiter and getting the ball rolling :)

Anyone else out there in the beginnings of making big changes, and excited about it?

What can I do next?

The Navy rules!!!! Congrats.

As you are aware, you can "be" whatever you want in the military, you just have to put the effort into it! Opportunities are endless.

I was enlisted years ago, as was my husband but with all the opportunities afforded him, he went to night school, earned his undergraduate and one graduate degree, applied for a commission, was choosen, went to OIS, went to the fleet for about two years, applied to the Naval Postgraduate School was accepted, asked for recommendations to go to school, earned a second graduate degree, back out to the fleet. Retired four years back as a LCDR. He went from an E-1 to an O-4 retired. Alot of hard work but well worth it!

Currently our first son is graduating today from Hopital Corpsman "A" school, then on to Pharm Tech school.

Point being, whatever your dreams are for your family can be achieved with work and perserverance.

I am happy for your family, best of luck on your new adventure!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

The Navy ROCKS!!! I'm a Navy Brat!!! (married USAF) but still!! :)

CONGRATULATIONS on this life altering experience!!! Once he gets in the Navy, he can look into the Boot Strap program so they can help him finish his degree!! he might want to become an officer as well (more money).

I hope that all works the way you two want it!! May you have many exciting adventures and be assigned stations that rock your world!!!

BTW - thank you for your service and sacrifices to our country - very much appreciated!!
