Soon to Be Mom Needing Suggestions on a Pediatrician in My Area?
I am due in 5 days, May 18th, and I still have not choosen a pediatrician for my child. I have been looking at our local clinics and reading doctor bio's but I am finding this decision really hard to make. How do I know which one to choose or what is most imporant? Is there anyone that lives in Apple Valley Minnesota, that can recommend a doctor your child sees and you really like?

As already mentioned, Southdales Peds is terrific! I live in AV as well and their office is less than 10 minutes away. The doctors are great, the nurse line is great and very patient and helpful when you are calling every 30 minutes because your child has a fever and you don't know what to do. The best thing about their office is that they have sick hours too and they are evenings and Saturday mornings, great for working parents. Also nice to know that only sick kids will be there so if you are just going for a wellness visit, they won't schedule it then so you avoid the most germs. They also have a great fish tank/aquarium with fish and turtles in it and the kids just love it.

I bring my 2 boys to Southdale Peds in Burnsville. They are really great! They have evening and Saturday appointment times and are so kind and calming to my kids when they have needed it!
Many of them are great there but a few that stick out in my mind are Dr Kristupatis who is a male and Dr Westlund she is great!!

We've used Dr James Dufort at Eagan Valley Pediatrics in Apple Valley (on Cedar). We love, love, love him! Hope your delivery is speedy and safe!

Our advice from the doctor in the family was that as long as the baby has no special issues we should see any pediatrician. I really liked the doctor that saw our baby in the hospital, she was from an Aspen clinic in maplewood i think. The first visit we had at 10 days was with someone from Children's and it was really stressful. We were not happy at all and planned to go elsewhere, but gave it one more shot (due to the kind of chaos having a newborn at home brings we went to children's again) We have been seeing Tina Park there ever since. I really like the way she talks to me. One mommy to another. She holds my baby girl like she is her own and is very smart, sweet and encouraging. She has given me wonderful advice! My child is perfectly healthy (thank you god!) and I am now very happy with the care I receive at the clinic at Children's hospital in St. Paul. We have not needed anything other than well baby visits. Don't know about sick baby yet. Maybe that is another plus in their column. My child hasnt been sick. Good luck to you. Your whole universe is about to change!

I HIGHLY recommend Southdale Pediatrics in Burnsville! I like them both as a mother and as a pediatric nurse myself. They are knowledgeable, respectfull, and know how to care for both kids and their nervous parents! My daughter sees Dr. Lisa Oie but I'd recommend any of the doctors! I enjoy working with them both as a patient and as a professional (the doctors round at Children's Hosptial where I work). Start with Southdale Pediatrics, visit a few of their doctors, and pick which one fits you best. You don't have to pick one doctor right away. They work closley with one another so if you decide to go to one for one appointment, then another for another appointment until you find one that click, that's fine!

I have two girls, 1 & 3 and we go to Metro peds and see Dr. Durand. We really like the clinic - great hours and there is no waiting. Durand has a wonderful bedside manner, is thorough and informative. He is also of the opinion that children shouldn't be medicated unless absolutely necessary, which I agree with. He is great at giving options and helping us make informed decisions. We have seen others there as well, but we like his approach and thoroughness.
Good luck! It's not easy I know.

K.,
We go to Southdale Pediatric in Burnsville. They are large, but really, really nice and very professional. They even have an x-ray technician and allergist in the office so you don't have to go to a specialist or to the hospital. They were recommended to me by several people.
Congrats on your first baby,
S.
