Something Other than the Old Cookie and Snicker Salad.
I am preparing to go to a family reunion, for four days each family group (7 kids) have to prepare a lunch or supper meal for that day. Anyways all the salads I make are ones I've inherrited from the aunts, lol. So I would love to show up with something other than a cookie salad (striped cookies, v. pudding, and cool whip) or snicker salad. Any suggestions on a dessert salad recipe that's been a hit for you? Thanks.

So What Happened?™
I knew you guys would have some awesome ideas, now my problem is choosing which one to do!! Thanks, lol.
A snicker salad is made with 12ounce cool whip and then you cut up 6 snicker bars bite size (or cut up the bite size ones) and cut up 2-3 granny smith apples bite size and then mix together. Yummy=)

If it doesn't have to be a salad, Rice Krispie bars are always a hit and easy and not too messy.
Martha Stewart has a great website with lots of cool things.
Rachel Ray has great ideas too.
Have fun!

This is not exactly a desert salad, but it does have a lot of fruit in it!
Romaine lettuce torn into bite size pieces
Fresh strawberries cut in half
Blueberries
Pineapple tidbits
Mandarin oranges
Pecans
Poppyseed dressing.
Combine all the ingredients in the ratio and quantity that you prefer. Chill before serving.

I have a favorite chicken/wild rice salad that I make. I don't have a recipe for it, but its basically pretty easy. I cut up and cook a package of chicken breasts and let them cool. I cook white and wild rice (you can buy as a mixed bag) and add that to the chicken. I then cut up red grapes, apples, mandarin oranges and mix with miracle whip to moisten. I also have put almond slices in it too. You can pretty much add any kind of fruit you want. Its really yummy! Have fun!

This is my favorite dessert salad, and my family all loves it.
1 cup milk
1 cup sour cream
1 8oz pkg instant vanilla pudding
mix those together til smooth
Add (drained)
1 15oz can crushed pineapple
1 15oz can fruit cocktail
1 8oz can mandarin oranges
sometimes I add a jar of maraschino cherries
mix all together, refridgerate for about an hour, serve chilled. I may not have the size of the cans exactly right, but they are pretty close to that! This recipe is easy to double, and easy to prepare. Hope it helps & have fun with your family!

I recently found this to be a hit at the last family picnic - fresh fruit in either bite size pieces or whole like strawberries and blueberries with a dip that tastes like cheesecake and then graham cracker and/or oreo crums to dip in after the wet dip - makes mini cheesecakes
Dip
8 oz cream cheese
2/3 cup sour cream
2 tsp almond extract
2/3 cup powdered sugar
first mix cream cheese until smooth than add rest of ingredients. chill. use toothpicks to dip first in cheese dip then crums of your choice.

I have a new favorite "salad" that is nice and light and refreshing. It is an apple salad and it's super easy to make. Depending on how many people you have, you might need to make a few batches. I am a Weight Watchers member so it's also good for those trying to watch what they eat.
20oz can of crushed pineapple with juice
1 lg pk (or 2 small) fat-free, sugar-free vanilla pudding mix (dry mix)
Mix them together and add:
3 Cups diced apples
8 oz fat free cool whip
Mix and let chill for at least 2 hours
(For Weight Watchers 1 cup = 2 points)
I absolutely love this salad! Have fun with your family!

It's more of a dessert, but they love it. Take an angel food cake and cumble it up. Take one cup powdered sugar, 8 oz cream cheese (softened) and a tub of cool whip (thawed) mix it all up then add the angel food cake. Fold that in and put in 9 x 13 pan. Top with your favorite pie filling. I usually use strawberry or blueberry. Enjoy.

You might try a Waldorf salad--there are a lot of recipes out there on the internet and it's a nice salad with apples, celery, walnuts, grapes, sometimes onion, and a little mayo and sugar. Good luck and enjoy your family reunion!

My kids love pasta salads, especially if you make them with the "fancy" noodles like rotini or bowties. I just cook the pasta, add cherry tomatoes, black olives, cubed cheddar and some Italian dressing. You can really use whatever veggies your kids like (broccoli, green peppers, frozen peas, etc.)
