Someone to Fix My Computer

My husband is a computer tech and there are a few things you can do yourself to help your computer. There are 2 FREE programs you can get online called AdAware and Spybot.

These programs look for files that have been placed on your computer without your knowledge. Many websites have files placed on your computer to track what websites you go to. These files are not viruses, but they can sometimes be placed in locations that will cause problems with your computer. Of course you should have an anitvirus software to scan for viruses also. If you don't have something on your computer already, Clamwin is free.

You should run adaware and spybot at least once a week. You will be surprised how many files will show up. Depending upon my internet usage I usually find between 35-50 files with adaware alone in a week.

Hey J., So try this on your computer before you take it, I had the same problem.

Go to the START button. then click on SEARCH. Type in the word COOKIES on all files or folders. Click COOKIES FILES on the top. Erase all the files that are UNDER the word INDEX but don't erase the INDEX. This will erase all the websites that you been too and clean up your computer so it won't go to slow. try this first if it doesnt work which I think it might, then take it in. good luck

Thanks ladies! I tried all the advice so far and still nothing is working. The adware wont even stay up for me to do a scan. I went to the cookies folder and there was nothing in the index. I have a laptop right now. I am going to try to make it over to troubleshooters. But I am never on that side of town so I will see. My computer is really making me mad.Its not just the internet its slow from the very start. It turns off while I am on the computer. It freezes every time I start the computer and I have to wait about 30 minutes to actually use it. UGH! Hopefully I will find something that does work.

I don't know if you remember, but we have talked in the past on the phone.

The only computer place I have been to is Troubleshooters on Coors just north of Paseo del Norte. At the time I took a computer in there, they were doing a free diagnostics to tell you what may be the trouble. You can check with them to see if they are still doing that.
