I am soooooooo upset about this whole situation and no one has really gave me any answers that I don't already know...Where to begin??....Ok so my HCG levels have been acting like a yo-yo... I first went to the emergency room on 6/30 because I was spotting and had a positive pregnancy test with HCG levels of 1477... I went back to the emergency room on 7/2... I was still bleeding and my HCG levels were 793... so they told me I was having a miscarriage and to contact my ob/gyn... so I did that and went to the doctor last Friday... my ob sent me to have a blood test and I was still bleeding... I had the blood test for my HCGs and went back to his office today...the HCG levels were 1098... so now he told me to have another blood test... what is going on... I am no longer bleeding and When I did bleed I had a little bit of cramping for like 2 of the days... I am going out of my mind... Did I have a miscarriage or not?? This is so confusing and stressful... What should I do??

To add.... I did have a sonogram both times...a regular one and transvaginal...they see a fetal pole and rump sac and no bleeding in the uterus everything seems normal except they can't detect a heartbeat...the tech said it could be too soon and they also stated on 6/30 the fetus was about 5 weeks 1 day...

What can I do next?

it honestly sounds like you had more then one pregnancy, and then one decided to jump ship, so to speak. typically, the rudimentary heart doesnt start beating until, i think, six to eight weeks. so, give it another week or two and if they cant find a heart beat by, at the latest, ten to twelve weeks, then
the fetus could be considered non viable. but dont start bawling yet, just sit tight for a few weeks. i know it aint easy, but try.

a molar pregnancy can cause elevated hcg levels. a molar pregnancy is like being pregnant but instead of a fetus, it is just tissue. They can do another ultrasound to check for a heartbeat to make sure. If it is a molar pregnancy, they do a d&c to remove it. It sounds like you are having a miscarriage, but your levels should not be going up again. You may have to go through more tests before you find out.

My sister had a miscarriage and gotten pregnant again soon after. I don't want to get your hopes up, but something similar may have happened.

It doesn't seem to hopeful if they haven't found the heartbeat, but even with a sonagram it can be difficult at that age.

I know it may be impossible, but try to stay as calm as you can. Stress will not help. I've had a very horrible experience with a miscarriage, so I just want to say I hope you will hear good news.

Okay - ask for another sonogram.

While it's possible you had a miscarriage - it's entirely possible you had implantation bleeding. I don't know how heavy the bleeding was but I can tell you that one of my girlfriend's had this - her HCG levels were wacky and she bled like a normal period - they told her she had lost the baby - he's now 5 years old.

If they can detect heartbeats at 6 weeks - technology sure has changed!!!
I didn't think they could do that until 10 weeks.

I know it's easier said than done - but TRY to NOT stress. Just take a deep breath when you feel the stress coming on. Do things to pamper yourself.

I will keep you in my prayers.

I think maybe you miscarried a twin. That would explain why you bleed and the HCG hormones went down and then back up! I would call the doc and discuss this with him. Also I dont know much about molar pregnancy's, but Beth B seems to so check that out! I hope everything works out for you and what you want... I am sorry you are stressing so much and I am asking that you please try to relax for your (and if there is a baby) sake. Rehardless relax for you! Hugs...

The only thing that I can think of is maybe you lost a twin? I think it would be too early to see a heartbeat, I read that the earliest it can be detected is 7 weeks. I guess just wait it out and hope.

I would ask the doctors what all of this means. It is still very early in the pregnancy, and you might want to take it easy until you are certain you know what is happening in your body. It seems it is difficult for even the doctors to tell if you miscarried or not, but time will tell. Meanwhile, take care of yourself, rest--the bleeding could have been a result of maybe doing something strenuous. You didn't write what had been happening prior to 6/30. Try not to grieve until you know what is happening. You might have a baby growing within you, you could have miscarried a twin, there could have been a stress inducer, you could have had some mild trauma. Who knows? Rest, take care of yourself, give yourself a few more weeks, and then followup with your OB until you are satisfied you understand.

Hi N.,

sounds like you need to talk to your doctor or nurse-practitioner, tell them you are stressing out and that can't be good for you (and your baby if you are pregnant).

I think it may be too early for a heartbeat. you may just have to wait it out for a bit, hard though that may be.....

I hope everything turns out OK; I'll keep you in my prayers. Please let us know what happens!
