The honest truth is that it doesn't matter a whit if you are paranoid or not, pregnant or not, there is NOTHING you can do about the situation EXCEPT relax! You are a mom with a 2 1/2 year old boy. Take a deep breath, deal with what today throws at you, and tomorrow you will deal with tomorrow.
I have had a miscarraige for no reason and have also fallen hard 10 feet in early pregnancy and had a perfectly healthy baby. AS much as the world claims you are responsible for EVERYTHING, you aren't.
Take a deep breath, and one day at a time.
May the Force be with you.

Blood does NOT cause a false positive on a home pregnancy test. you use an HPT to test for hCG hormone which does not normally reside in menses or any other blood unless there is a pregnancy, or some other health issue (as another poster stated above)

hi C.,

Go to your GYN. Good luck. D.

Like someone else mentioned, I think I read in the Girlfriend's Guide To Pregnancy that dark brown means it's "old blood" which is good (apparently). Anything that makes you want to throw up though is never good, right!? I had spotting while pregnant w/ my son and the doctors could never explain why it happened. And like you described, mine was brown. I'd go to the doctor and have them confirm the pregnancy and let them tell you that everything is fine. I always feel more confident when someone in a white lab coat tells me something. PS - My first pregnancy test turned negative and then a few days later it was positive. You probably just took the first test too early and your hormone levels didn't register yet. The instructions on the box will tell you that it's more common to get a false negative than it is to get a false positive.

The only advice I can give you, is call your OB. When I had my miscarrage, that is how it started. I also had some cramping. Sorry.

Dear C.,

I completely understand your worry. First, if you can relax. Sometimes during pregnancy there is what is called "break away bleeding". It can occur during implantation and during your normal cycle time for your period - so don't fret. Also, dark brown blood is old blood verses bright red/pink blood being new blood.

To put your mind at ease, I suggest you call your midwife or OB and explain your worries. They can write a script for an ultrasound to verify implantation or they may suggest you "wait and see".

Also, from your post you could be not pregnant and just late - so it would not be a miscarriage. It sounds like you are so excited to be pregnant again. That is wonderful! Why don't you wait another week to assure that your period is not starting and then retake a home pregancy test (if you can stand waiting). If you can't stand waiting call your OB/ midwife, make an appointment for a pregnancy test and discuss your concerns about miscarriage.

Good wishes for you! Try not to be nervous and try to stay positive and relax.

Is this your period? Blood(any traces) can make a test positive. I sure hope you are preg as it is was you want, but call the doctor just to be sure. Also, maybe your body needed to get rid of waste from last month, and it did it today. I would not worry until you talk to the doc...Not TMI, just a question....Let us know

When I carried my daughter, I took a pregnancy test, then in my 6th week started to bleed - the same type of bleeding your talking about. I carried my daughter almost to term, she came three weeks early. Anyhow, the type of bleeding you are experiencing if it stays dark brown and not bright red - can be typical of implantation of the egg, or just residual because this would be the normal time for your cycle to start. This does not necessarily mean you are having a miscarriage. If you do some research you will find out that (this can be done on line or even better if you have the book - "What to expect when your expecting") this type of bleeding is very common at the beginning of pregnancy and usually nothing to worry about. Also, as long as you don't get heavy menstral bleeding this pregancy should be as wonderful as your first one. Good luck and my prayers for you and your family.

i had the samething with my pregnancy. it was the egg settling in the uterus.. if you start to bleed heavy or have more red bleeding i would call your dr.. if it is brown i wouldn't worry to much and take it easy.. still call your dr if you are concerned.
