Oh, D., please get to a doctor immediately. You need to be checked for the things folks have mentioned already -- anxiety, depression, thyroid, pregnancy. Get checked too for low-grade infections if none of the above apply. Even get checked for things like allergies or celiac disease since there is vomiting and weight gain involved.

Then please, please get help for dealing with your son's Down Syndrome. You are NOT alone. There are other parents out there who have already been through this who can advise and help and empathize with you. Try these two resources

Down Syndrome Association of Atlanta
www.atlantadsaa.org

National Association for Down Syndrome
www.nads.org

Please ask them to help you find a support group in your area! Then do whatever you must to get out and GO to that support group for parents of kids with Down Syndrome. Is there a dad in your child's life? He needs to go as well so you can support each other emotionally because clearly your son's needs are draining you badly. Find a sitter, anything, but go and get help.

You need time away from your son, too, and you need to rest, recharge and GET A BREAK. It is hard to give yourself one and you may be struggling with anxiety ("What if I leave him and something goes wrong?") or guilt ("I should never ever leave him, he's so needy") and so on. But you must have time off. Can you find a mother's helper who can watch him at home while you are still in the home for even an hour, so you can be somewhere else in the house? Can you get other breaks while his dad or someone cares for him even for a short time? If you do not take care of yourself you will be unable to care for him.

Please get a medical diagnosis first but then get the emotional support of those who have been through this! Find support in your area ASAP. You can do it!

You're not fine. It sounds like post-partum depression. What's wrong with your doctor that he or she isn't taking this into account?

You need to copy this out and take it to the doctor's office. Ask them to have the doctor read it. Tell him or her that something's just not right and you need them to actually help you.

Don't wait. Do it now. You need this. So does your son.

Good luck, D..

If you arent pregnant, it just sounds to me like you need to take a little better care of yourself. Drinking a lot of water helps perk you up. Our bodies are like 70% water yet we put all sort of other fluids into it and NOT water for some silly reason. Eat healthy food, not junk food.
Also, you might be going through a phase, taking care of your son, trying to keep the house up, etc.... we get overwhelmed now and then and it can cause a temporary bout of depression. You only have the strength to deal with one day at a time, so do your best not to worry about tomorrow, you will have strength for it when it gets here.
You sound like you could use a breather, find someone to give you a hand for a day or two.
Don't feel guilty for taking naps if you need them!

Sounds like you could have a problem with your thyroid- I think its hypo thyroidism that can cause your symptoms. You should make an appointment with your doc to have it checked out. There is medicine that will regulate it and help you to feel better. Also- sounds like you have anxiety as well and your do can help you with this too. Good luck.

Sounds like a visit to the doctor is definitely in order. You have a special needs child who probably needs constant supervision, so taking a couple of naps during the day (if you're the only one home with him) is probably not in his best interest. Get yourself to the doctor and get some help.

I agree that you might have depression, but the symptoms you describe is what the early stages of my pregnancies have been like. Any chance you could be pregnant?

It sounds to me that you may be depressed, if you are not pregnant. I would suggest seeing a family dr to make sure you don't have any health issues first before seeking treatment for depression.

I hope you feel better soon.

You should go to the doctor and talk to them. It sounds like you need a break. It also sounds like you are having a bout of depression. I don't know how old your little guy is, but do you have help? Moms need breaks too! I would think about maybe finding out what is going on with you phsycially, but it seems that some anti-depressants might be the right thing to help you feel better. Sometimes you just need to take them to get out of the funk you are in..short term. They can also help with the anxiousness and being scared all the time. Not that these aren't healthy and maybe even valid, only you and your doctor can decide that. You are not alone! I have been there and I know how hard it its! I ended up having to take meds and couseling for about a year, but I am doing so much better now. Sometimes we just need to be brave enough to ask for help.

PS...it does sound like hypothyroid like Mallory said, I have that too, and it was part of the problem.
