So Odd! Shaky / Weak / Nausea Spells?

I get these spells where I get really shaky and weak (have to sit down or lay down) and I can barely lift myself off the couch. Today it happened pretty bad. i had a glass of water with a little Mio in it and sat down. A few minutes later, my stomach felt upset (almost like I had drank too much water) and then within 10 minutes, I started getting really shaky and weak. I ran to grab something to eat hoping that it would help and within the hour I felt better. Could it be low blood sugar or iron? It happens off and on, no way to predict.... and I also had eaten breakfast less than 2 hours before (pancakes with no syrup, 1 piece of bacon, and 2 hashbrown sticks)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

** forgot to mention that I am also being seen because the doctor suspects and ulcer... tested positive for ulcer causing bacteria as well as have the symptoms of it.

It sounds very much like low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)! High carb breakfasts can aggravate it, but having something high protein (peanut butter or ham work great for me) really helps. Cereal, toast, Danish or potatoes for breakfast will often cause the same symptoms, unless you also have an amount of eggs, meat or nuts at least equal in amount. Try to eat at regular intervals throughout the day, and eat as soon as possible after waking up.

I get that way sometimes, too, usually after exhausting physical activity like a workout or chasing my daughter!!

I usually carry a high-sugar snack with me like raisins and lots of water.

There was one time I had those symptoms and um, well, I am now a Mom!!

Sounds like what I had in college that my doc said was low blood sugar. One time I was at work and suddenly I couldn't see and had to sit down until my vision came back. That was scary. You should go to the doctor and make sure it's nothing serious.

LOTS of possible causes.

I get this way when I've been in too much pain for too long... it's my body starting to go into shock.

My sis gets this way with migraines (I also get migraines, but I start mixing up words like a dementia/alzheimers patient, and then get my own private black hole).

About 70 different infections come to mind
About 20 different disorders
About 15 diseases
Too many to list Environmental causes (allergy/ mild poisoning)
9 different imbalances

And I'm just a student. Shaky, weak, nauseous probably has 300+ differentials attached to it from ear infections to blood sugar to parasites to neurological. A visit to a doc will rule out half in the first 5 minutes. The rest get tested for in a likiehood schema (just like a baby crying gets wet/hungry checked first, then pain... we don't look for a bug bite first every time our baby cries, we do most probable first, and work our way down the list).

I used to get really light headed, nauseous, and have constant head rushes. The Dr's found that I am border-line anemic so was probably anemic when I had those episodes. I also have low potassium so am sure that I am constantly drinking water, and have a banana daily. When I'm working out I have Himalayan Sea Salt in my water and I haven't had any issues like that in a couple of years now.

Good luck to you and hope you get this fixed and you get your ulcer under control. My mom has ulcer's and she was in lots of pain...Not fun.

The one mom is right that it could be a zillion different things. The thing that sucks is you are just going to have to head to the doctor and start getting some tests, just to rule out the obvious or possibly a diagnosis (wouldn't that be nice to actually get a diagnosis?). I say that sarcastically because I deal with all kinds of weird stuff like that, and still no solid diagnosis. All kinds of fun possibilities like Lyme disease, fibromyagia, MS.
Only thing for certain is that now I also deal with panic attacks and depression (not sure what came first, the chicken or the egg kind of thing), and the symptoms you have are definitely symptoms I have when I am having panic attacks. Not to scare you though, but just to relay that sometimes stress and depression can cause crazy body stuff or make an already existing condition worse. And nutritional deficiencies/low blood sugar can make all that stuff worse.
I guess my point is at least go to the doctor and see if they come up with something certain before you go down a bunch of dead end paths.
Sorry you are going thru this, not fun.

I have similar symptoms when I don't eat enough protein for breakfast and/or I've had too much caffeine. I tend to carry small snack size protein bars with me. Yours sounds a little more significant than mine, although if I don't eat a snack I do feel like I could pass out, so I would definitely have it checked out by your doctor. Although you said you had eaten breakfast less than two hours earlier was it a high carb breakfast? Those don't last. Did the doctor say whether it could be related to the possible ulcer? Good luck.

I get that way occasionally. usually it is diet/nutrition related. The breakfast while delicious has no nutrition. your body may be reacting because it needs to be fed. Quality not quantity. I feel better when I have the foods in your breakfast you described PLUS a bowl of fresh fruit. And the mio really wont do anything for you either.

I'm glad you are going to the doctor. I have experienced this. But it has not happened since I began using a c-pap machine. Do you know if you snore? I did not realize that I had severe sleep apnea until I began waking up gasping for breath. Come to find out I had not been getting enough air for years while sleeping and this caused dizzy spells throughout the day, random weakness, numbness (in my hands and arms especially) and all kinds of aches and pains. Something to consider.
Sometimes sleep apnea and acid reflux go together.
