So Is It a Boy or Girl?

Don't go shopping yet. I know many many women who were told it was a girl even at 18-19 week ultrasounds and on delivery day it was a boy. The testicles typically don't drop until somewhere around 18-20 weeks.

I agree with Momof3girls. I wouldn't buy a thing either way. There is a reason they don't like to say one way or another until 20 weeks, and that's because things may not be where they are supposed to be at 14-15. Just try and relax and realize that even if it is another boy, this child will be an amazing blessing!

P.S. I think any mom who has a boy always entertains the idea of what a girl would be like (and vice versa), but as a mom who finds out on Tuesday what this one is, I honestly have to say that I will be 100% thrilled either way! A new child is exciting no matter whether it's a boy or girl! (Think about being able to use all of your boy clothes again...I forgot how great mine are!)

I agree with most that I would wait to purchase anything or if you do keep your receipts. :) Either way a new baby is exciting. Little girls are so different to raise than little boys and I don't blame you one bit for wanting to know what it is like. I love my boys the same as my girl, but they are just different to raise. :)

Just be careful. One of my friends was told it was a girl at both of her screenings, her doctor said absolutely a girl. Surprise, surprise, surprise... Little Boy #3 for their family was born in December. :)

I was certain I was getting a boy the 2nd time around because I felt sooo different. Nope, got TWO girls. Don't breathe just yet.

With my son it took 2 U/S to tell because he was sitting cross-legged and they couldn't tell. My tech said she's always 80/20 its a girl cause sometimes was what looks like one bodypart is really something different.

With a 4D, I would think they would be able to see SOMETHING if it were a boy. I would still wait until after the next US to buy anything girl specific.

When I was pregnant with my 2nd I was told I was having a girl. I really wanted a girl since I already had a boy. My FIL had only boys, so HE really hoped I was having a girl. It was a BIG deal. I was so nervous that they were wrong. When we registered I only let myself put neutral things on it. Talking to the Babies R Us workers they said 'oh we agree!' ... turns out that just that morning they had 5 different Dads come into the store to return things. They all had been told that they were having girls and out popped boys!! One mom had done the whole nursery in pink, including a pink crib. So that Dad had to go home, take the pink crib down, pack it up, take it back, get a crib that was in stock, go home and put it up in time for them to come home the next day from the hospital!! That sealed the deal for me!! I did end up having a girl and it was the biggest event in my inlaws life! After that, my 2 SILs each had girls So we have 3 grandboys, followed by 3 grandgirls (all within a year and a half!)

"Desperate for a little girl" concerns me. What happens if it's a boy, will you be desperately disappointed? I wouldn't take what the doctor said as a most likely at all. It's still too early to know for sure, that is why your doctor said he cannot confirm until 19 weeks. Wait it out before you start buying little pink outfits. Good luck and congrats.

Hi there! Congrats on being pregnant! I'm pregnant too and at almost the exact stage! It's Friday today and I just turned 15 weeks today. I totally KWYM about being sick, though. I have hyperemesis gravidarum with BOTH of my pregnancies and hospital trips are becoming the new normal. At least I'm starting to feel better now. :)

It's so much fun to try to guess what the gender will be. For me, I'm convinced this time around it's a boy. I just have that feeling, you know? I mean, like you, I'll be thrilled either way, but I just think it's a boy. Sometimes it's hard for people to understand and my mom especially likes to lecture me and say, "But remember you'll love the baby no matter what its gender." Ugh. Duh! Doesn't that go without saying?

Anyway, I think it's difficult to really and truly tell until The Big Ultrasound. Until then I think it's mostly guess-work. Mine isn't scheduled until May 4th which seems like an eternity to wait.

I think unless they tell you they see the "three lines," you can't be for sure positive that you're having a little girl. We went to a 4D place at 14 weeks, because my then-3 y.o. son was convinced that we were having a girl, to the point that he was getting really upset when we would say, "You'll still love him if he's a boy, right?" Thankfully, the tech saw the three lines and said that she was "a million percent" positive we were having a girl. I still made them check every time we had an ultrasound throughout the pregnancy, though, because I've known two people who were told they were having a girl only to be surprised with a boy when the baby was born.

Of course you will love your baby regardless, but I totally understand having a preference. Good luck!

Don't let people make you feel badly for hoping for a little girl. When I was pregnant with my second, I was "hoping" for a little girl: not because I don't like boys, but because we always planned on only two children and I had always hoped to have a daughter.
at my 14 week 4d ultrasound, I was told it was a boy, for sure. Because I was giving up the dream of having a girl, I cried when they told me. I wasn't sad that I have a boy--- I love my first son and got really excited about my second one.... I was just morning the loss of this "image" I had of being the mother to a little girl. Don't let anyone fault you for your feelings, ever!
My little boy (#2) is now three months old and he is the love of my life! He is so sweet and cuddly and just perfect--- I could never imagine him to be a little girl--- I love him SO much the way he is! I am so glad to have 2 boys that complete our family perfectly. Do I sometimes wonder what it would be like to have a girl? Sure. And that's just fine! We are human, after all!
by the way. They could tell FOR SURE mine was a boy at 14 weeks... so while I wouldn't go out and buy things for a girl yet, it is very likely that you are having a little girl, I think...

I just actually read in my psych book that we all start out as girls, and as the weeks pass our genitals either drop down and out or up and in.. I believe this process starts before 14 weeks, so it very well could be a girl :) Only time will tell. How fast was the heart rate? My daughters heart rate was always 150 and above. My doctor said boys tend to have a lower heart rate. Exciting huh?? <3

I would be excited yes, but shopping not so much just yet. You are still early in the pregnancy and you never know, the next ultrasound could show some "extra parts" in there. Dont get your hopes up, but I completely understand what you say about wanting a girl. Of course you do, how fun it would be! I hope my next one is for sure. That doesnt mean that you wont love the baby to pieces if its a boy either, so dont let anyone get you down. You know what you mean, and some of us do too, so for now just be happy its healthy!! :)

I totally get what you are saying. That you WANT a girl. But I know you'd be OK if it were the other way around (excited still infact, right?) Anyway I would not count at this point on it being a girl. But it still can be. Only when they SEE girl parts be confident. Don't be confident in the absence of a boy part. Good luck.
