Hey mamas,
Well I am 39.5 weeks today and lost the lovely mucous plug, I had lightly blood tinged discharge all morning and then in mid afternoon out came the glob, gross, sorry, but I was happy to see it! I have never had it happen before with my last two, so it made me happy to see things moving a long, at least I know my body is in having a baby mode, regardless of when exactly labor does come. So, my mom said she lost hers and had labor like four hours later, I have been reading online a bit and just getting a feel for it from others. So anybody on here want to share? The early, little pieces as I said were blood tinged but the biggie was not, just looked like good old snot blob for lack of a better description :s So I was wondering about it bc I did see a little tinged stuff if that could be a sign of labor being close or if even with the tinging it could still be a week or so away?? What are some of your experiences? I know losing the plug doesn't always mean much but what about when it comes with a little coloration along the way? Thanks!

What can I do next?

It has been a week since I started loosing mine and on Tuesday I was 3 cm... but with my first I delieverd within the day. I'm sure if you don't by our next appointment they will set-up an inducation since you are already 39.5 weeks. I am 38.5 weeks and they are already talking about it, but they can't do it till after Satuday when I would be 39 weeks and if they can't do it then - I will attempt to make it to next weekend... since my MIL works during the week and my in-laws are watching my other 5 kids while hubby is with me at the hospital.

Hope things go fast for you and that your little one is healthy and sweet as can be!

With my 1st pregnancy, I lost my plug and went into full-blown labor 11 days later (my water broke). He came 6 days before his due date. Being pregnant with my daughter, I lost my plug and ended up being induced days later. She also was born 6 days before her due date.

When I lost my plug, it didn't come out all at once. It gradually came out throughout those final days of pregnancy. Just keep an eye out on it and go ahead and pack your bags for the hospital.

Good Luck!

Bloody show is an indicator that labor is on its way! Within a couple of days of starting your bloody show you will be holding your little one! I woke up Friday at 3AM with bloody show, and went into labor Sunday night, delivering on Monday afternoon. But my mucus plug never fell out (not that I noticed) so I would think it would be even sooner for you!

I remember loosing mine with my second and third.

With my second it came out the morning I went into labor. I didnt even know I was having things move along. It was my due date. I figured I was going to have my bun in the oven over my due date. Ended up having him by 8:01pm that night.

My third, I swear I lost my plug a few times. But it started at 36 weeks. And I had the globe come out like three separate times. Always the same stuff...And never the same size. The last being like the day before I had him.

With your being so far along, it could literally be hours....or still a week. I would get prepared, because the glory moment is coming and soon.

Good Luck and Congrats!!

Oh my gosh, I am so disgusted! ;) I have had 2 labors and never once lost the plug, so I have no experience with this, crossing my fingers it won't happen in this pregnancy...

But from what I know, you can lose your plug and still have several more days or a week (or two). Praying it comes swiftly for you! If you have concerns, call your ob to make sure all is well.

As for the discoloration, it says here, "You should call your health care provider immediately if your discharge suddenly becomes bright red and the amount is more than an ounce (about two tablespoons). You could be experiencing a complication such as placenta previa or placental abruption."

I woke up on a Monday am with cramps (like period cramps) and then I lost the plug at about 7 am (and yes it was just as you described). This was my 3rd baby, the other 2 I was induced 2 weeks and 1 week after due date - so I was expecting the same this time. I called my dr about the cramps as I they didn't feel like contractions and I was concerned, I went in and was dilated to 3 but contractions weren't bad so she told me to go home (I live 30 mins out of town) . . . I went to the office and finished what I needed just incase this was it, contrations started about 12:30 pm, when I started charting and I left the office at 4:30 - contrations between 20 and 10 mins apart - I still wasn't convinced it was real so I went to the grocery store - I was't in there 10 minutes when they were suddenly a very consistent 5 minutes apart - never hit 10 min - so I rushed, left the store, got home where my husband met me and when we got back to the hospital at 6 pm I was dilated to 6 - it was the real thing. My third daughter was born at 7:24 pm. Good luck to you!! I wish you a fast and easy delivery!!

In lost mine and a little while later (45 min) my water broke. I was 3 weeks early.

But there are moms on here who say it was days or a week, before they went into labor after losing their plug. .

With my 2nd one, I lost my plug when my water broke. I was 6 weeks early and we headed to the hospital right away. They didn't do anything to stop labor and baby was born at 11:25 at night (water broke about 6:30am). I would at least phone your Dr. for advice.

Just so you know, I was an OB nurse and have been in obstetrics for over 30 years. Losing the plug can mean anything from labor is right around the corner to it is still 2 weeks away. There is no reason for concern. Just keep on doing what you've been doing. And there is no reason to induce -- labor starts because the baby is ready (unless there are medical reasons) and it will come in due time. No one has ever been pregnant forever. :) Good luck with your little one. Know you are excited.

I only had this with my third, and although I can't remember the timeline now, I know it was at least a few days before I had her, but it may have been closer to a week. I just remember being excited that things were FINALLY happening....and then they didn't. At least not immediately.

Think about your last two labors, though. Are you one of those women who starts having regular contractions and ends up in the hospital having a baby? Or are you one of those women (I fall into this category) who never seems to have regular contractions until they're the BIG ones but you walk around at 3 cm for four weeks thinking you're going to have a baby aaaaaaannnnnnnyyyyyyyy minute now? More likely than not, this labor will follow your normal pattern. Good luck and congratulations!

With my first son I lost my plug, mine was all just gobby mucus, but I did not go into labor right away, in fact I didn't go into labor for another week and a half. So I lost my mucus plug again the next week. I had no idea that you could lose it twice, but my grandmother, who was a labor and delivery nurse told me that if you don't go into labor within 5 days or so the mucus plug will reform to protect you.

With my last pregnancy, I only lost i once and went into labor a few days later. It's definitely a good sign because it means you are dialated and labor will be just around the corner, but don't be surprised if you don't go into labor as soon as you'd like.

The blood tinged mucus is what they call bloody show and it usually happens shortly before labor but not necessarily. I know I had a little with both but can't recall exactly when. I think with my first it was after the second plug loss but I could be mistaken.
