Snow Trip Solution for Holiday Drama...Now NO SNOW!!!

First, my apologies to those mamas in the midwest who are being hit by huge snow storms.

This is an update to my earlier question about holiday drama and my sister. To stop having to deal with her drama, I planned a trip to Tahoe for white Christmas, especially for my husband who misses snow. I am very happy right now and looking forward to the trip.

My sister is still hemming and hawing. She actually told me she might not come at all for any part of Christmas because one of her friends found out she was going to "be all alone" for Christmas because we were traveling (really it is because she chose to dog sit!) and now she wants to visit with her.....I am fine with whatever she does. Now I have a new problem...NO SNOW IN TAHOE. So all you mamas, I need your ideas. We are still going. We will be in a townhouse near the lake. Me, DH, my healthy (thank goodness) 80 mom and my 8 and 12 year old boys. Any good ideas for fun things that do not require snow would be greatly appreciated.What do you think? We will be bringing games and making great family dinners and the best part is just hanging out together< but as the mom of two boys, I know I need to plan for them to burn off some energy!

where in the midwest are moms getting pounded LOL??... Im in Minnesota and its unseasonably warm. There will be NO SNOW FOR X MAS :(...

happens for us every 4 or 5 winters. Last year we had the poles out and Santa sleighs to get around in with feet of snow for Christmas. This year I will roast weenies on an open fire around the backyard BBQ in heavy sweaters.

Suggestions, going outside and enjoying the awesome weather by hiking, biking, and fishing as most suggested. I love Tahoe when I visit some Great Aunts there.

There is fabulous hiking in Tahoe! Plus, some of the resorts will probably make snow for Christmas. Is there absolutely no snow at all? Even at Squaw Valley? It's a beautiful place that's sure to be festive regardless of the snow situation.

They'll be making snow for sure, most likely on the easiest runs. They might even have sledding hills open. Check the website for the nearest resorts to you.

You can still ride the ski lifts when there isn't snow and many resorts still have activities going on. I am not familiar with Tahoe, so I am obviously assuming they have ski lifts there!

You can get some of those gingerbread house kits and put those together for one night too for lots of fun.

How about skating? Or hiking? Also, not sure how far a drive it is, but Bodie State Park is really cool. It's an old cowboy ghost town where the kids can run around and look through old buildings, see old cars, tractors, etc. My first son loved it when we went.

If you drive down to Nevada, over by Carson City there's an old silver mining town that is fun to tour called Virginia City. Carson City has a museum. Also perhaps your sons would like to go fishing?

Would you be interested in hiking? There should be some good trails with the mountains bare.
