Hello Mammas,

We live in San Pedro and would like to take our kids up to the mountains to play in the snow for just a day. Where is the closest place to go?

Thanks!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the responses!! Our original plan was to go to Big Bear Snow Play, but we ended up by the side of the road and sledding for free. My kids had a blast, but were cold and wet after an hour and a half, so I was glad we didn't buy tickets to any of the sledding places. Thanks for all the info!!

Well, you would want to get a hotel room, or something, (about 7 hours from where you live) but Lake Tahoe is beautiful and we've gotten a lot of snow for skiing, sledding, or just plain fun in the snow.... I live about 30 mins. away, and we have snow on the ground (about 4 inches) and I know it snowed more up at the Lake....

Hi, We just got home from the snow. We live in Long Beach and went to Mt Baldy. It took us about an hour to get there. There wasnt a lot of snow so that was a little disappointing. It was an easy drive. You need to stop at the Ranger Station and buy a $5 day permit and then you park along the road and have fun. Lots of people were sledding and a lot were just trying to build snowmen and have fun. It would have been a lot better had then been more snow so I would check first before going. Have fun. Very easy fun day and we are not snow or cold people. Kids loved it. T.

I was going to respond and then read Cheryl's post. Mt. Baldy would be the closest and it's a lot of fun. Big Bear is a blast and like someone posted they have intertubing there. That person wrote about Alpine Slide, which is so much fun. There's another intertubing place just outside of Big Bear that is cheaper then Alpine Slide and the lines are not as long. Both places have the magic carpet.

Have fun!!

We live in San Pedro and have been thinking of doing the same thing. This looks like a ton of fun and very family friendly. www.alpineslidebigbear.com
It's probably a 2 to 2.5 hour drive.
The magic carpet thing looks awesome!

If you're not so much into skiing, you might want to try Sequoia National Park (it's southeast of Fresno). They have a beautiful lodge there (surprisingly inexpensive), right in the park, and right now they have TONS of snow. Lots of places for sledding, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, etc. If you don't mind going further north, of course there's Yosemite, which is incredible any time of year, but especially beautiful right now. There are several small skiing places near there as well.
