Snaps on Overalls Keep Opening!

My 18 month old daughter has a few pairs of overalls, but the snaps on the inside of the legs won't stay snapped. Anyone have tips on keeping them from popping open? Some of them are new (including a pair from BabyGap), so it isn't an issue of them having worn out.

What can I do next?

My mom told me to try hitting them with a hammer... I never tried it myself, but I see someone else had the same suggestion so you might want to give it a try.

I wonder if she needs the next larger size.
I wonder if maybe you're not snapping them shut
as tightly as they need to be . . . .
squeezing more tightly around the rims.
Try closing some snaps when she's not wearing them
and toss them around, or throw them in the washer snapped shut.

Get a hammer and lightly tap the part of the snap that sticks up to flatten it out just a wee bit. It will help it hold.
I had that issue years ago and just tapping it helped.
YMMV

Sounds to me like they're too small. The thing about overalls is that sometimes kids with long torsos can't really wear them b/c they pop the snaps at the crotch b/c it's not hitting her in the right place. It may be the same size clothes she normally wears but maybe just her body type isn't conducive to overalls and under-leg snaps. Or maybe she just needs the next size. I had a pair that I loved and wanted my son to wear them longer...they would fit in the morning but when his diaper got too wet they popped! ;) I had to finally give them up! Ha!

I would say either loosen the straps on top or she needs the next size up. That always happened to us and it was usually just because we needed a bigger size.

I hated overalls for this reason. I did try the next size up and it helped, but not always.

Try taking some tweezers or needle nose pliers to the inside circle of the snap. Squeeze together JUST A LITTLE at a time, around the circle. Try the snap and then do a little more if needed. This should tighten up the snap. If it still does it when the snap is tighter then they are probably to tight.

I had the same problem! It's definitely not the size. I think it's just cheap snaps. Now I try opening and closing snaps several times in the store to make sure they are not going to pop open.

I bought a pair of jeans for myself and one snap on the pocket wouldn't snap. Do your snaps snap tight when you snap them but then unsnap while she's wearing them? IF so, I suggest that the overalls fit too snugly.

IF they don't snap tightly initially, I 'd take them back to the store.

In my earlier days, coveralls and overalls were mostly what babies wore and the snaps did loosen. How soon depended on the quality of the snaps. I think that you can still buy snaps at a fabric store to replace the ones on the overalls. Actually, you don't replace them. You just put a new snap next to the old one.
