Small Business Accountant

K.: I have owned a small business for 4 years and I too knew nothing. Someone suggested to me to interview 3 accountants and go with the one I was most comfortable with. I chose Van Eck and Dykstra. My accountant is Roy Van Eck. I have an S corp.

The main office is in Countryside, but don't let that stop you, because lots of times correspondence is done through the office or email. Office staff is great there. Roy does meet with you face to face initially and he has been a great teacher and mentor. I feel very comfortable. No question is a stupid one to him.

Another organization you could check with is the Professional Woman's Network. They are based in Park Forest and sometimes it is nice to work with women too. They do have some accountants.

Having a good accountant is really helpful and worth the money you spend. You don't have to stress about every document and can focus on getting on with what you do and care about the most.

I work from home as an independent contractor for a company (that was how they allowed me to work from home due to a medical condition). I only get a check from them, so I have to pay taxes as a Contractor. My accountant is FANTASTIC! She set everything up for friends of ours who just started their own small business (don't know what kind of corporation). She is super friendly, knowledgable and reasonable price. Try Eberhart Accounting on Boughton Rd. in Bolingbrook. I have been going to them for years and they are great. They do business taxes and personal taxes. They answered all my questions when I first started my daycare business and explained just what I needed to do and what records to keep. Good luck. Their ####-###-####.

Where are you located?

I have our tax guy do ours- jim clark who drives to our home in cary and reviews our tax's- I am also a creative memories consultant so he takes care of that. When he is done he drops them off. We have used him for 8 years and he is an awesome guy!

I am not sure if this helps or not, but I have a small home business and I use Turbo Tax. I have a home daycare and I have been doing Turbo Tax now for 4 years and knock on wood no problems. I find it very easy to understand. Just make sure you read thoroughly what edition to get for you. It has it on the cover which edition you can use.

I have a wonderful accountant that I currently use for all my personal taxes but I also used for my small business I had a few years back. He was great with helping me in all aspects of my business.
