Sling for Newborn

I'm due in about 3 weeks with my second child. As I already have a 14-month-old wearing this newborn is going to be my only option at first. My toddler never liked being in an infant carrier, so this time I was thinking I might try a sling first. Any recommendations for a sling I can get that is comfortable for both me and the baby, and will allow freedom for my arms to hold my toddler as well? I would love to be able to purchase this item locally and not online, and spend around $50 or so. Thanks!!

I ended up purchasing the Ultimate Baby Wrap from Kay in Grapevine. She has even offered to show me how to use it once the baby is here! (That's only a few days away). Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for everyone's suggestions...and to plug the Nesting Place in Grapevine it's a great resource.

I really know what you mean about needing to wear this baby. I also agree that the carriers just don't meet your needs. My 2 favorite sling/wraps are the HotSling and the Ultimate Baby Wrap. They each have thier own advantages and disadvantages. The wrap is perfect around the house and for longer outings where you want to be able to hold your baby in multiple positions, even breastfeeding, and still have both hands free. It doesn't put any pressure on your shoulders or back or on babies spine or legs. It has a pocket that allows you to carry cell phone, keys, wallet, or diapers and wipes etc and it is made of a TShirt type material so it is easy to wash and wear. The disadvantage to it is that it is a wrap and so takes a few seconds to put on (about 20 or less with experience).
The Hot Sling just slips over your head and you put baby either in a cradle position or sitting when older or on your hip. It can put pressure on your shoulder after a while and a lot of people I know will switch from side to side after about 1 hour. It is very convenient to put in a diaper bag and just throw it on and pick up baby for shorter outings to the story etc and it gives you hands free for toddlers.
Both products are under $50 and available at the Nesting Place in Grapevine with several patterns and colors in stock.
I hope this helps,

I was unable to find what I was looking for locally, so I found KangarooKorner.com and bought my sling from there. It is great, I like it and my son seems to like it as well. They come in many colors and designs and you have quite a few fabrics to choose from. They are also ajustable and that is why I want with Kangaroo Korner.

Good Luck and Congrats

There is a website called www.etsy.com where thousands of sellers have their own shops on there, all items must be handmade. I love this site because I have found so many unique and wonderful things on there, I always look for gifts on there first before hitting the stores! Anyway, there are a lot of sellers on there that make items for babies, and lots of beautiful custom made baby slings! And you can check the sellers feedback too to see how many positive feedback responses they have gotten. Anyway, here is the link to all the different baby slings that are on there.

I had the baby bjorn for both my babies, and neither one of them liked it. I'm pregnant again so I am going to be shopping for a baby sling on Etsy for sure!

(I have my own store on there as well, http://www.bumblebeebaby.etsy.com)

Go to the Nesting Place in Grapevine. Kay has a few different slings and she'll demonstrate how they work. The address is 1679 W. Northwest Hwy. Grapevine ###-###-####. Good luck.

I second hotslings www.hotslings.com and I also love the ones at www.goo-ga.com called the peanut shell. I was in the same boat as you, and the sling was a lifesaver.

This website has some great baby products and links to other sites that are really cool too.
