Slim4Life - Have You Tried It and What's It Like?

Hi,
I am trying to lose about 12-15 pounds. I have been trying Weight Watchers online and am not having any luck. All do to me, not the program. I'm thinking I need to find something that will hold me more accountable, rather than just counting on myself. So I'm thinking of joining the WW meetings or trying Slim4Life. Just wondering if anyone has tried that and what they think of it. I'm a little leary because they won't tell me the cost over the phone, so I don't know if we're talking $50 or $500! Also, on the website it mentions "proprietary weight loss aids" and I'm leary about that as well. I want it to be as natural as possible and something I can carry on by myself when I'm off the program. I don't want to have to take something that costs a fortune or that will make me gain it back if I ever quit it. I'd love to hear from anyone who has tried it and what they think of it. Thanks!

What can I do next?

My husband did the WW meetings, and it really did keep him accountable. He ate regular food, and he counted 'points' for each food. It really helped the whole family since he cooks! We watched portion sizes and I even ended up losing some pounds. The cost per month shouldn't be more than $50.

I worked with a woman who used Slim4Life and she did lose a lot of weight. (her goal was to lose 90 pounds) I know she paid over $800 at the beginning and then paid an additional amount monthly for supplements. I have heard great things about the program for people who had a lot of weight to lose. She looks absolutely great now, and has kept if off.

Good luck with your decision!

I haven't tried the Slim4Life but did join WW about a year ago. I went to the meetings and also used their eTools which really helped me count points. I didn't work out a ton while doing WW just basically counted the points and was able to lose about 10 pounds so that should work for you if that is all you are trying to lose.

If you read the fine print on any of those weight loss advertisements which show people who have lost weight, they state that the results are not typical. You don't have that much to lose, so you're not in bad shape. I've found the only thing which gets the weight off of me is running. Alternately, I'll bet if you picked up a regular walking regime, you'd find the weight falling off. Exercise mixed with a good diet is really the only way one can lose weight. Good luck.

Hi S. -
I haven't tried Slim 4 Life, but did try another competitors program - and the cost is alot up front and then typically weekly/monthly costs for their 'supplements'. I have also done Weight Watchers and that is what I would recommend -- but GO TO THE meetings, so you at least have to face someone when you step on the scale! Also, with weight watchers, you have more flexibility with your foods and is more manageable in the long run (I lost 35 pounds and got down to a size 6). Good luck!

Hi S.,
Many of my friends swear by WW. They found it to be supportive, affordable, and very realistic. They also liked that when we went out, they could still find something to eat, as opposed to more "slavish" diets like no carbs, etc.

I've never heard anything about Slim4Life, but I am like you in that any of those "dietary aids" scare me a little. For one, I don't know exactly how safe they are, and for another, if you need them to lose the weight, what happens when you stop taking them? You can't take them forever...Plus they're usually very expensive.

I myself have now lost 40lbs in the last 6 months using Slim in 6, which is another one of those "as seen on TV" things. It was $70 for the DVDs, flex plan, and diet information. I did NOT use the supplements they offer, nor did I really follow the diet to a T. But, they use this thing called "Michi's Ladder" that basically divides foods into tiers. I like this because if I'm cooking something, I can easily make a choice between things just by looking at the chart. It was a fairly slow weight loss, but I'm still losing about 1 pound a week, even though I stopped the workout program months ago. (It's a 6-week workout.) My husband did it, too, and still uses the DVDs a couple times a week.

Good luck!

Hi Stacy,

I firmly believe weight watchers is the route to go- but the meetings not online. With the meetings you physically have to weigh in each week and IF you truly follow the plan it is nearly immpossible not to lose 1-2lbs a week. I am a stay at home mom of 2 girls, 3 and 5 and after my first child I joined weight watchers and after a new mind set (due to the meetings) and a new desire that I was worth it to be healthy for myself AND my family I ended up losing 75lbs. I have maintained this weight for 3 years! It's not a diet but a way of life, and eventually you no longer feel like having to lose weight consumes your daily thoughts. Exercising doesnt have to be the norm work out routine either many everyday things we do are counted as exercise points (ie house cleaning, walking to the park) I'm not super model thin, a size 8, but I am healthier now then I have ever been, and know my body better then ever!

The KEY though is to find a meeting with a leader you are comfortable with, some leaders are funny some just kind of read what info they are told to share with the members for the week. Some are hyper and some not so motivating. Lastly you must commit to yourself that you WILL go weekly it is scheduled into your life and not open to be rescheduled you deserve the 1 hour a week to do this-As a mom I realize our activities are the first thing we put aside when life gets busy- you cant do that- some weeks you mayfeel guilty you left the house in a rush, your spouse may be upset you are leaving for your meeting leaving him to care for the kids and himself, your kids may go to a meeting with you (many areas have mommy and me meetings) and whine and want to leave dont give up and in no time you''ll be down where you want to be.

Fee wise when all is said and done maybe it will cost you $100, check for specials online such as fee registration.

Whats the saying" IF mama aint happy no ones happy" :)

Good Luck

It is great--my husband lost 30 pounds in about 4-5 months. HOWEVER, yes it is expensive. I about fell over when I found out how much he paid to start the program (I can't remember what it was exactly, but it was more than $500). He did it because a friend of ours was working there. You have to buy all kinds of supplements and they run about $200 a month more or less depending on your particular program. The upside of the cost is they have super support. They can always tell you how to help a particular problem and they call if they haven't seen you for a while.

For the 10-12 lbs you need to lose invest in a personal trainer for a month or two--you will look and feel better than any diet.

I've done WW meetings and they are the best for accountability! You get on a scale at the same time each week and it really helps you when you want to "cheat" on your points. If you're not attending meetings, there's no consequences (other than the lack of lost weight). I've done WW both with just the online system, and then once I went back to meetings I started losing again. Good luck!

I've been doing Slim4Life since March. I'm losing 85 lbs. The costs is based on the number of weeks to lose the wieight and the on in Lakeville has a fabulous staff - they always try to help you with any specials they can.

It is not intended to be a life long process - it's not a diet that if you "quit" you gain back teh weight. But you need to be sure you are ready to change your eating habits. Lots of veggies, etc. The supplements are optional and their is not special meals to buy. You shop at the grocery store - more produce less packaged goods.

The cost holds me accountable. I was a bit lax on it this summer so i'm a little behind the projections but I've lost 40 lbs. For the 15 you mention, I'm sure the cost and time involved will be less than what I've spent.

Hope this helps.
