Slide-in Single Oven Range vs Double Oven Freestanding Range

We are getting our kitchen redone and are trying to decide on which range to get. I really like the double oven since most of the time, I'm really only using the oven to make chicken nuggets, pizza, etc, so I would use the smaller one. I also like the idea of having the double ovens for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I think it will make things easier when cooking the turkey/ham and all the sides. On the other hand, I love the look of the slide-in ranges and the ones that we are looking at overhang the countertops so I that food doesn't slide down between the stove and countertops. I am concerned with the size of the oven, however. It's pretty small and I keep thinking of Thanksgiving and Christmas when I am cooking dinner for everyone. Will I be able to fit everything?! I'd hate to spend all that money and then be disappointed. I'd appreciate everyones thoughts and experiences with either range. Thanks so much for the help!

What can I do next?

Are you able to get a countertop range that allows for a cabinet underneath? We have a double oven on one wall, then a cooktop range that's not a separate slide-in unit, but built in to the counter. I love the double oven. Before this we had a Kenmore slide-in range with double oven that I loved. Definitely worth having both ovens, with the smaller one on top and larger on bottom. Have fun deciding!

Our previous house had a wall double oven. We absolutely LOVED it. I do realize how costly they can be, but if I were redoing my kitchen and had the space, I would completely and totally get a double wall oven again. It was so nice to not have to lean over to get stuff in/out of an oven. Plus we have L. kids, and with the ovens being a L. higher up, I didn't worry about a child running around the corner and landing in an open oven (I realize that's probably me just being really paranoid, as I don't sit there with the oven door open for long!).

Our current house does not have a large kitchen, and it had the space for a single range. Since we loved the double oven so much at our previous house, we opted for a double oven range. It serves our purposes just fine. The top oven is smaller...that is true. We use it the most, though. The bottom oven is really a full size oven that starts at the ground (imagine taking out the bottom drawer that is usually on a range and replacing it with a smaller oven....only that smaller oven is on top). You'll still have a full size oven for your big holiday dinners, and you'll have the smaller oven on top to do bread/casseroles/etc.

SO, if I had a choice, I would do a double oven built into the wall. If I had to go with a range, I would choose a double oven range. :)

My parents went from a double oven, one on top, one on bottom from the 1970s to a single slide in one that is free standing. They didn't have the room for the double wall oven, and it sure did make make Thanksgiving and Christmas hard. It was the only oven I had ever cooked large meals in, and we ALL still miss it! If there is any way you can get 2 ovens DO! But, make sure one isn't just a warming drawer because those are out there as well. Or, you could get a vintage one that has been redone, those are pretty neat too.

I have a range with double ovens, and couldn't be happier! I absolutely love it! The top oven is smaller, which I love for most everyday type use. The bottom is a large oven which I use when really baking and holidays, and things that won't fit in the smaller oven. I can get so much in those ovens! I would say go with the double!

Just for your consideration while you are deciding:
Food can still slide under the lip and end up between the stove and the countertop.
I have a slide-in. Maybe mine didn't get leveled properly or something (doubt that's it) but there is still a bit of space, enough for bread crumbs, (for example, or uncooked rice) to slip under the edge.

I do like the look of it better, and not having to reach over the hot pots to adjust the controls. Those are all on the front panel. Makes it easier for the kids to use, as well. (Mine are teen or pre-teen age--old enough to make a cheese quesadilla, fry an egg or make a grilled cheese, etc).
