Has anyone done a sleep study before? If so, did you find out "specific answers"? Was the outcome of the sleep study positive and did your sleeping improve? I've become an insomniac over the past 4 months (initially due to stress over extended family and pets moving in with us) and I can't shake it...I've tried EVERYTHING and nothing is working......
I've heard that you don't get A LOT of good answers afterwards, it's more of a guinea pig experiment for them...
My insurance does not cover it and I really don't have the money to do it.
PS I have insomnia and I know I don't have sleep apnea.. Is it worth doing a sleep study if I know I don't have sleep apnea?

What can I do next?

My husband had a sleep study and I wish he had done it about a year earlier! The sleep study showed that he had sleep apnea and had several instances of not breathing while he was sleeping. It's really hard to get good quality sleep and feel good when you are waking up all night long. Once he got the CPAP machine, he started sleeping better. Before the CPAP, he felt terrible all the time. He had trouble breathing, heart palpitations, dizziness, and panic attacks. He was just a mess. He saw every doctor you can think of because he was worried he had something seriously wrong going on. After starting the CPAP, the difference is like night and day. He has lots of energy and is much easier to be around and can play all day with our kids. He also was able to start exercising and has lost about 20 pounds and put on muscle. I know a sleep study is expensive, but it's simple enough to do. We were very happy we had it done.

My husband did it when he had trouble falling asleep and staying asleep. The results were "normal." The thing I didn't get about the sleep study is that they told him to take any medication that was prescribed to him - and he was prescribed ambien for sleeping. Don't know how they could get an accurate reading from that. Anyhow, another friend did find out she had sleep apnea from a study. I hope that helps a little bit.

My husband had it done and is supposed to be using his CPAP machine to help him get oxygen/breathe better. He was dx with sleep apnea. Our insurance covered it, but it is worth getting one done by the right people.

This may sound strange, but anti psychotics work wonders for sleep problems- especially if the sleep problems are anxiety related. My psych put me on a drug called Seroquel and while I took it I slept like a rock. I was on it for post partum depression, but I never slept better than when I was on it. I took myself off and now I sleep okay, but not great.
