I remember that same thing happening to me. But, for me it started when I stopped nursing before putting baby to bed. I dont know if it was the change in routine or missing the relaxation and hormones or whatever thats released with nursing- that made me no longer be able to get to sleep. It probably was anxiety. I think I had trouble with that and never knew it. I would try something from the health store before from the DR. Prescriptions are way too strong and has a lot of side effects. Look up Relora & see if its something you'd wanna try. Good luck.

All of us mothers know how invaluable a good night sleep is!! You definitely need to either call your OB/GYN and get a light sleeping medication that will help temporarily or just take some Tylenol PM (a benadryl tablet will mostly do the same thing). Those items won't make you to groggy to care for the baby but will allow you the rest you so desperately need.

Are you a new Mom? (is this your first child?) If so, I would think some of this would be a little bit normal; once you have kids, your sleep is never quite the same! Just ask any Mom. :)
But w/a baby at 8 months, you should be getting some sleep; at least hopefully 6 hours.
Also, what are you doing during the day? Are you napping w/your baby by chance? I know w/a baby at 8 months a nap is a very welcome event, and I try to get them in even today! Sometimes though it does mess w/my getting to sleep at night and perhaps staying in a good solid sleep. It is just a hard time of transition at times. I would talk to my Dr. and let them know what is going on and see what they suggest. There are many things that can factor in to why your body is not giving in to sleep, or staying asleep. I would eliminate all caffeine-related products too by say 5 or 6 pm...Hope this helps!
p.s. Pray for God to give you the rest you need to take care of your baby and yourself. :)

Have a routine that includes a warm bath or shower. Also, you could try camomille tea, and if all else fails call your doctor. Insomnia can be a sign of post partum depression.

we had a brinks alarm system installed with motion detectors, fire, and break in protection. the installation was free and the monthly fee is $35. i have slept very well since we got this. i don't know if this is part of why you are not sleeping, but it was for me and this has helped tremendously.

If he's sleeping all night than the problem is re-setting your internal clock. Try the old-fashioned remedies for yourself - a warm bath right before bed, some chamomile tea or warm milk, etc. Stay away from the tv after baby goes to bed.

It's probably just your body clock taking a while to re-adjust after all that newborn care, but here are a few things to try. If nothing seems to work, you may want to go to the doctor for a checkup and advice.

Give yourself some time to wind down in the evening before going to sleep. For example, read a book, take a bath, etc. You may want to try skipping TV before bed too.

Try to get in some exercise, but probably not after dinner. (Then it might wind you up instead of down).

Check your bedroom surroundings. Is you room too hot/cold? Is that nightgown scratchy? Is it too bright (alarm clocks, fire alarms, cell phone, window)? Noises?

Watch what and how much you eat for dinner... you don't want a fussy tummy keeping you up.

If you're not opposed to drinking in moderation, a small glass of wine may help.

Avoiding Food, Exercise, The computer, and The TV a few hours before you want to go to sleep is very important. All of these will keep your body and mind pumping.

Also, a warm bath with a cup of herbal tea (without caffeine) is very helpful.

If you must eat something, a banana is good for helping relax the muscles.

I like to drink a cup of Natural Calm...It's a powdered Magnesium that you add to a cup of hot water. It totally helps me relax and sleep. YOu can google it and find in online or at a local health food store.

I wouldn't recommend Melatonin right away. And definitely not a sleeping pill of any kind. Try some of these very harmless natural ways first.
Talk to a supplement specialist at a local health food store.
Or check our Dr. Mercola's website for more info. He's a great resource.

Hope this helps!

Take some melatonin in the evening. This is a natural hormone that you can buy over the counter and isn't addictive.

Good Luck !

Oh its Mommy insomnia. I have had trouble with it for years, the best solution for now; you need someone you trust to hear your child, to spend the night so you can fall into a deep sleep. For me it is my Mother. You are stopping yourself from sleeping deeply because deep down you are afraid that you won't hear your child. I have been there and still when they are sick I can't sleep sometimes for weeks (my kids are 5 and 9) and I do NOT trust their father to hear them at night. Good luck its hard to learn to relax and sleep.

You could try some Melatonin that can be purchased your local health food store. It shouldn't make you groggy or too sleepy to get up in the middle of the night if you need to. I think anxiety sometimes adds to poor sleeping when one has the new responsibilities of an infant. I used to worry about my kids dying of SIDS. The reality is that most babies who die of SIDS do so at ages 2 to 4 months. It is REALLY rare after 8 months. I have also found that praying as I go to sleep helps relax me and gives me the opportunity to turn my concerns over to God.
Take care, it will likely get better as your baby gets older!

I havn't slept through the night in six years. My oldest daughter is six and she didn't sleep through the night until she was two and by then we were having another baby that didnt sleep through the night until she was two either. Now we have a three month old who occasionally sleeps through the night but I am in such a habit of getting up every few hours that I still wake up. Sometimes I take a sedative if I am really desperate. good luck

Ok sometimes kids do have a problem sleeping, the reason is that they get excited and do not want to miss out on any thing, thats normal but then again they might be developing sleep problems, that you will have to consult a doctor with to see if he is having some problems with his sleeping habits. and you is the reason you got used to it in some ways of him not sleeping that you have to get your mind set on sleeping and you are letting go of not sleeping,it could be lots of things like your self you have to relax the mind. it will strt programming to sleep and be at ease. ok you have to help your sleeping habits in the right direction. it will take some time but meditate on that.

Just as your son has developed the habit of sleeping all night, you are now stuck with the habit of waking up (to check on him). It's common to new mothers and you have all my sympathy. Now, try some mild exercise about an hour or so before bed, then a warm bath and a cup of chamomile tea. If this doesn't help, you might want to ask your doctor if he or she can recommend a mild sleeping pill which will not make you sleep too heavily or wake up groggy. Over the counter - Sleepfast has been recommended by some of my friends. Good luck hon from an old pro to one who will be :-)

What are the reasons for you to get up? Are you worried and checking the baby? Do you need to go to the bathroom? Are you lying awake and worring about anything? If you can answer that question, it will be easier to figure out a solution. If you are having anxiety issues, you may need to work with a professional. My brother died when I was pregnant with my second child. I had incredible sleep issues after that. Due to the pregnancy, I didn't medicate or anything else to numb the pain. Eventually, after my child was born, I started suffering from panic attacks. After being thoroughly checked out by my general practitioner and my cardiologist, I was able to overcome them with exercize and relaxation. I've not had a panic attack in 4 years, but occasionally have insomnia. I am a worrier (especially since having children and losing my brother) and the worries can wreak havoc on my sleep. Personally, I like tylenol pm because I am not knocked out cold. I can still function and get up with a child or to go to the bathroom, if necessary, and fall right back to sleep. Sleep is very important for you to be able to be a good parent, wife, friend, worker or just functioning human being. Please ask yourself the questions and get help if you need it because sleep is so very important and you are worth it.
