Skin on Daughter Sore to Touch

My 11 yr old daughter has been complaining for a few days now of tenderness in her thigh in one leg. She says it feels like a bad bruise from her knee to her upper thigh and hurts to touch it. I don't see anything really except her veins seem a little more visible and she does have a small spot that looks almost like a bruise. I'm debating on whether to bring her to the Dr. or to just wait it out and see a day or two more. Has anyone else ever heard of anything like this?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thank you all for your responses. Turns out it was from her first period coming on! I never would have even guessed that. She started on Weds and the pain and marks went away, amazing things the body can do....Thanks again for all your suggestions!

Just with what you have given I would say it is worth a visit to the Dr. I won't go through the what if's but as someone with a little medical experience I wouldn't hesitate to call the Dr. if it were my child. It could very well just be a bruise. I always say better safe than sorry.

It could be a bone bruise. But if it isn't better in a few days, go to the Dr. immediately... this happened to a friend's 7 year old and they took her pretty quickly to the Dr. She has cancer of the bone, metastisized to the lungs.

So take it seriously. If it doesn't get better soon - get to the Dr.

Bring her to the Doctor; it sounds strange.

She could have a tick bite and i would bring her to your pedia doctor asap......

good luck to you

Please bring her to a doctor. It could be nothing but you want to be sure. I had a similar feeling a few years ago and it turned out to be a tumor. I had it removed and I am fine still 5 years later. They said it also could have been an infection which would have needed antibiotic. I really do not want to scare you but I know (from experience) that it is better to see the doctor. Even if they look at you like you are crazy, even if it is nothing it's better to know.

I hope everything goes well and it is nothing.

A question. Is it the skin or the muscles underneath? Either way, muscle pain and bruising or pain in the legs is often due to a nutritional imbalance that effects the organs and corresponding muscles. I used to have bad pains and bruising up and down my legs. As soon an I saw a holistic chiropractor and made changes to my diet, including taking minerals, the pain disappeared. Now, I am a Nutritional Microscopits, someone who studies health at the cellular level. I examine live and dry blood to determine what imbalances there might be in the body and help people focus on diet and lifetyle to reverse symptoms. The Chiropractor I work with is amazing and focuses on nutrition as well. His name is Dr. Thom Bober, located in Osterville, MA (we share a building). His number is ###-###-####.
My business is called Cape Microscopy and my number is ###-###-####. I would try to nip this in the butt before things get worse. Your daughter's body is giving her signals that there is an imbalance. Hope to hear from you and good luck!

I would make an appointment with the doctor right away. I am not a doctor or health professional, but my niece had similar symptoms, which turned out to be a very serious staph infection. You're better off ruling that out as soon as possible, rather than waiting.

call the ped as soon as you can. My husband had the same thing and it turns out it was some type of clot lodged in a vein in his leg. He had the exact same symptoms as your daughter. The dr said if left untreated theres alot of things that can happen. Have her checked out they may want to do an ultrasound. Why not have it checked and if it turns out to be onothing then at least youll feel better! Good luck

Growing pains? I remember being that age and having random soreness in my legs and I'm pretty sure it was just growing pains. This is the age when girls really start to sprout. But, it could be something worse, so it never hurts to at least call the doctor. Good luck!

Hi K.,

my sister had something similar to this when she was very little. Have you ever had your daughter's iron levels checked? In my sister's case, she turned out to be anemic and this was causing the bruising and soreness to the touch with her skin. Hope this helps.
