Six Year-old Has Itching Fingers

My six year-old daughter has been complaining about itching between her ring and pinky fingers on both hands for about two weeks and I can't figure out what to do about it. I know it's strange-there are no other symptoms, but it's really painful and annoying to her. She did have a cold/fever for a couple days last week but it didn't last long and her fingers were itching way before then. I know it's a long shot, but I thought I'd throw this out to the mamas and see if anyone had any advice/recommendations. I'm going to call the dr. too. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Eczema maybe? Two of my children have eczema all over. You can lube her up with Vaseline or Aquaphor. And, there are a ton of prescription meds for eczema treatment.

We also use the Renew lotion, and I HIGHLY recommend it!

Sounds like your daughter is having either an outbreak of eczema, "just" really really dry skin, or an allergic reaction (does she wear any type of rings on her fingers?)

We also changed our son's laundry detergent at the same time we found the Renew, and his eczema is all but gone!(still can get the occasional outbreaks if I forget his lotion...which happens because his skin clears up so quickly)

You can contact Tracy T or me for more info (since she told you about it first).

try the gold bond lotion in the green bottle...

Hi,
You may want to try Arbonne Baby Care products. It is wonderful, and works great on eczema and other rashes. It is all natural, pure, safe and beneficial. My website is www.betsycampbell.myarbonne.com and my phone numbers are ###-###-#### (home) and ###-###-#### (cell)
I would love to help you out if you have any questions. I could also send you samples if you like.

You could start with over the counter hydrocortizone cream. Dry skin can cause bad itching too.
My 4 yr old has had red itchy hands/fingers from very dry skin. We got some Aveeno lotion. It's not regular Aveeno though. It's for something like extremely dry sensitive skin, no perfumes, etc. A little pricey for lotion, but it has really helped.
You could also try plain vaseline or aquaphor when she goes to bed at night. The best time to apply it is right after a bath or hand washing.

I would try some lotion...a really great one - Renew. It works great for really dry skin and doesn't contain any harsh chemicals. If that doesn't work, maybe call the nurse and see if they have any suggestions!!

Good luck!!

I had problems with itching but mine would also swell. By process of elimination I found I am allergic to MSG, seeded berries and shellfish. Just a thought it maybe an allergy.

Mine do that sometimes, but it is usually due to really dry skin. Most of the time some really good lotion helps. Hers could be more than that so I am glad you chose to call her doctor. Good Luck!
