Sit and Stand Vs. Double Stroller
Hi moms! I have some questions about stroller options. For a long time my almost 3 year old has refused to ride in the stroller. Now that her little sister is 6 months old and rides in the stroller she wants to as well. I've been researching the options and have heard such great things about the sit and stand model. The thing is we were just given a double stroller for free. My question is does the sit and stand fold up smaller than a regular double stroller? The one we have seems so long to me. Does a regular double stroller steer well? I also have a very small car and need it to fit in there. I'm not sure the double stroller we were given will fit in my car. I have a friend close by with a sit and stand and when I asked her about it I didn't get the answers I was looking for. Thanks for any and all info, tips, advice, etc.

So What Happened?™
Thank you all for your input on the sit and stand stroller vs. double stroller. You gave me some things to think about I hadn't before. I'm going to see how the double stroller works and then decide from there what to do. I love this site!! It's great to get input from mom's who use the products, have been where I am or can offer some advice from their personal experiences.

The sit and stand is nice. It is just as long as a double stroller, but better for older kids since they can sit or stand. My 3 year old likes both.

Hi A.. I used the duoglider with my first two when my second was born. They were 15 months apart, so very close in age. When my third was born, the duoglider was falling apart. Now we do give it quite a workout because we walk into town almost every day when the weather is nice. When the duoglider was falling apart, I ended up purchasing two new strollers. I know it sounds crazy, but with how often we walk and how young our kids are (when my third was born my first was 3 and my second was 2), it was really important to have good strollers. I bought a new double stroller called Valco which is amazing because you can add a toddler seat (but you don't need that right now). I also bought the Joovy sit-n-stand because the Valco was really just for walking into town because the 3-year-old could walk if it wasn't a long walk. I use the sit-n-stand ALL THE TIME. I would say that it folds up to about the same length as the duoglider did. It's definitely longer than my BabiesRUs single umbrella stroller. As for the double stroller's ability to steer, I think it depends on the brand. The duoglider was torturous for steering, but the Valco is amazing. I find the Joovy sit-n-stand easy to steer.
I definitely recommend the sit-n-stand for use with a three-year-old. Have fun!

One of the main reasons I bought the sit n stand was because it fit in the trunk of the sedan I was driving when I first had my daughter. Two years later and I still love it.

A.,
I drove an Escort ZX2 (two door car) with a until the last year and I now have a 3 and 5 year old. I can tell you that both types of strollers will fit in your car.

My sit and stand is not quite as bulky as the double stroller I have (Graco double stroller, Baby Trend sit n' stand). It also steers much easier. i LOVE mine! I got it at target, think it was like $150. If you have a single stroller you love though, there is this jump board thingie I have seen in catalogs such as One Step Ahead that you can attach to the back of the single stroller and the older one has a platform to stand on. Of course, I haven't used this so I don't know how good it is, but with your space constraints, might be something you want to check out. Good luck!

We have a sit and stand stroller. It is about the same to steer and folds up to about the same size as a double stroller. We bought it to take to Disney World, and had a little trouble navigating it through the crowds. I think most double strollers are a little difficult to steer, but maybe the more expensive ones are better??? The advantage of the sit and stand is the ease of exit, for the older, standing child. They can get on and off, without having to unbuckle every time. Hope that helps...

I have a Joovy sit and stand. I drive a Pontiac Grand Am and it fits just fine in the trunk. I could even fit it in there with a set of golf clubs. The stroller is smaller than a double but slightly larger than a single.

Hi A.- we have had a sit and stand and a double. The sit and stand is no smaller or lighter than our graco douglider was. If the double is free I would use it as long as possible and go from there.
Beth
PS Our double made it through 4 kids and our sit and stand was definitely not as sturdy.
