The neilmed sinus rinse is what I use and it has worked wonders. I am the type of person who gets horrible sinus infections usually all fall and spring and they don't go away even with antibiotics. Once I started using the neilmed sinus rinse (which I got at Walgreens but they have at CVS too) I haven't had one since...it has been 7 months! I tried a nettipot but it didn't work for me...I highly suggest this product and tell everyone about it!

My husband uses NeilMed Sinus rinse. It seems to help a lot.

I am pregnant and wanted to try something natural to clear one up last month. It was the Netti Pot (I think that's the spelling). My husband got it at Osco. It was about $15. It comes with the saline and the pot. I COULD NOT believe how well it worked. It's rally yucky to use, BUT wonderful after you are done! Good luck!

There is a rinse that you can buy over the counter in Walgreens stores called SinuCleanse. I haven't tried it myself but my husband used it when he had a sinus infection over the winter and thought it worked really well.

Yes, it is called a "neddy pot". I, in fact, have one but have yet to use. However, I have been told that once you try it and get results, you will be hooked. You can also get them at a Whole Foods store with instructions.

I think you are looking for a NetiPot. It is like a little teapot where you pour the solution in one nostril and it washes through your sinus cavity and out your other nostril using gravity. My husband has one. He got his at Walmart. They also have it in a bottle that you squeeze in one nostril and the pressure forces it through. Here is the link:

I did not respond to this, but I do know quite a bit about alternative practices and they maybe referring to a netty pot. You can find them under the name brand Sinucleanse, in most stores or any health food store, just ask about the cleanse. Also a supplement would help greatly. I represent a product called Reliv. sinu-cleanse is a salt mixture that you add to warm water, then rinse through your sinuses. It takes some getting used to but can be used on a regular basis to keep sinuses clear and alleviate allergy symptoms. (It is the only thing that keeps me breathing clearly and sleeping through the night during my allergy seasons -- no drugs help.) I believe that's probably what you're looking for to treat the infection? You can get it at any drug store or online. I get mine from www.nationalallergy.com Good luck.

I've had chronic sinus infections all winter. FInally I had to get surgery to drain them and open them up. Now I use NeilMed sinus rinse, available at Walgreens or CVS, once a day to keep them clear. I haven't had any problem since using it. Either a neti pot or the NeilMed Sinus Rinse kit would work.

It is called a Neti Pot. I believe that is what you are looking for. Before buying the Neti Pot, I used to buy plain saline solution (not contact lens cleaner) and I would just sniff it to keep my sinuses clean. The Neti Pot is effective, more effective than what I was doing, although that worked too. You must also buy the salt that goes with it.
This also alleviates the puffiness of the eyes caused by allergies. I still have puffy eyes (fat pockets). The additional puffiness has disappeared.

You can buy it in stores. There are two different products to try. I have used both, as has my 10 year old son whom just had surgery to resolve his sinus issues.
Trust me, if there is a product out there, we have used it. My son had chronic sinus infections for 7 years!! We are finally at the end.

The first product is called a netti pot. Sold at Wal-mart or any pharmacy. There are several different brands and all pretty much the same.
The other is a sinus flush bottle made by a company called Neil med and is much more comfortable to use and reaches the same desired effect. Both of them work on the same premise. You use simple saline to flush the nasal cavity and reduce inflamation to allow for drainage of the sinus cavities. Works really well for allergies as well. What you may have is allegic rhynitus (sp?) Or, allergy induced sinus infection due to inflamation. Either way, it won't hurt you and all it can do is help. Also, keep in mind, cranberry and garlic mimics antibiotic.

First try some plain old generic salt in a squeeze bottle - Ocean or a generic - that might be all you need. A neti pot works more or less the same way but you may not really need it. The basic idea is just flushing out the sinuses. Take over-the-counter antihistamines to dry up the congestion, aspirin (not acetaminophen - for this purpose you want the aspirin; use buffered if it bothers your stomach) if there is pain. I highly recommend garlic in food or tablets, both for adults and children, as a way of improving your immune system. It helped me and my kids also - they went from 8-10 antibiotic prescriptions per year to none, just with the addition of garlic supplements to our diet. And C, of course!

In my experience - I've had a lot of sinus problems due to mild allergies - antihistamines with pseudoephedrine, the kind you have to sign for, are much more effective than the alternatives, even though having to sign for them is a pain. The non-PE formulas just don't clear up the problem.

Get a netti pot. It uses a natural saline solution to flush your entire sinus cavity. Use only netti pot salt (the iodine and other chemicals in regular salt aren't good to put in your nose.) Make a salt solution with pretty warm water, lean forward, pour solution through one nostril and it will travel through your sinus cavity and out the other nostril. Nasty, I know, but it works for everything! Excess mucus, allergies, etc. If you do it two times a day, while also boosting your immune system, drinking tea, extra vitamin c, etc., you should be able to kick it! Just make sure you breathe through your mouth while you do it! Netti pots are available at any natural foods/health store, apothecaries, or whole foods. Good luck!

Hi. Not sure if you would be willing to do it, but acupuncture is a miracle for my sinus infections. I have chronic sinus problems and sometimes have to be on 2-3 rounds of antibiotics to clear them up. I happened to be doing acupuncture for something else (pregnancy problems), mentioned it to my acupuncturist and she said that she could treat my sinus problem too. Literally, by the time I left her office, my head was clear and my infection was gone (no kidding). Highly recommend it if you are up for it! Also, a saline nose spray used as often as you can stand it works great too.

I use a sinus rinse called NeilMed. You can get it at Walgreens. My doctor recommened it because of my cronic sinus infection and since using it I haven't had any! Get this it works and it is real easy to use. Good luck!

I use the neilmed nasal rinse. Here is a recipe from my ENT to make your own solution (it is pretty expensive over the counter when you have to rinse 2 times per day, however the packets you can purchase are nice for travel). Use a 1 quart glass bottle that is cleaned and rinsed. Fill the clean jar with tap water or bottled water. You do not have to boil the water. Add 1 to 1 1/2 heaping teaspoons of pickling/canning salt ( I found a 4# package at meijer for less than $2). Do not use table salt it has unwanted additives. Add 1 rounded teaspoon of baking soda (pure bicarbonate). Stir or shake before each use. Store at room temp. After one week, pour out any unused and make a new recipe. You might want to warm it in the microwave for a few seconds to body temperature. Be sure that it is not hot. Do not stick anything in the glass jar mixture so you do not contaminate your supply. You can get a netti pot. I've heard those work well, but they do take a bit of time to start working as they are homeopathic. I hope that helps!

Hi S., there are a couple things for sinus issues. The Nettie Pot or Sinucleanse are kind of a preventative type thing. If there is already an existing infection you can try it to see if it clears up or there are a number of homeopathic remedies too that are highly successful based on some research I just did.

There is also a natural type line at your local natural foods market.

Some of the homeopathic remedies are also found at the natural foods markets. They are inexpensive and worked a wonder on my husband who has repeated sinus flare ups. Some of the common ones and the symptoms of the sinus problem:

Kali bichromium... used if thick stringy discharge is present. Pain is worse in morning and lessens through out the day.

Pulsatilla... common for women and children. Symptoms are worse at night or warmer air irritates it.

i use a netti pot...is that what you were looking for...it really helps....

The Nettie pot is a great thing. It's function is to keep your sinuses clear and helps clear out any mucous. Or - you can just buy one of those bulb syringes, the kind you use on babies. Take a small cup of purified or distilled water in a glass bowl, shake some kosher salt (not iodized) until salty and bearable and a big pinch of baking soda. Microwave for about 20 seconds until nice and warm. First gargle with it over a sink, then fill up the bulb syringe, hold one side of your nostril while leaning over and shooting the water in the other side. Then do the other side. you can get used to the sensation, it's not terrible - not pretty to watch. Do that at least 4 x day or more if you feel you have a sinus concern brewing. This recipe is ALL that commercial "saline sprays" are made of.

I am a long time sufferer of sinus infections and have tried just about everything. Something over the counter that I found to relieve some of the pain is called SinuCleanse and I purchased it at Walgreens for about $12.
