Silly Question - Quick Trips to Target, Etc

Fellow moms and I are discussing something (and a few dads are chiming in....)

When you need to run into Target or a similar establishment to grab a few things and you are alone except for the kids, what do you do with the small baby? Leave him/her in the car seat and just carry the car seat in and put the seat in one of the carts? Haul the huge heavy stroller out and push him/her in that? Just carry him/her in your arms?

What can I do next?

When my baby was smaller, I would usually take the car seat in and put it on the top of the cart where you push. Around 3 months when he could carry his own head and sit up, I would sometimes just hold him so he would not get fussy and see everything. The car seat is the way to go, though!

I put the little baby in the carseat on the cart. I have tried just using the stroller, but trying to cram a huge pack of paper towels in the bottom isnt easy. The carseats I have had have a notch in the bottom that fits nicely on the front part of the cart.

Sigh, I don't have a 'little one' any more. :(
Can I borrow yours next time I need to run to Target?

When my kids were little (babies), car seats were not the kind of thing you just took out of the car and put in a cart, or converting into a stroller. You HAD to get the (oh so peacefully sleeping and FINALLY) baby out of the car seat and into one of those infant carts (do they still have them?) or into a carriage and say a little prayer 'please GOD LET THIS BABY SLEEP THROUGH THEN ENTIRE TRIP TO TARGET AND BACK JUST SO I CAN HAVE ONE SINGLE UNINTERUPTED THOUGHT IN MY HEAD BEFORE I GET HOME TO THE MADHOUSE!'

:)

I used to pop my baby (now 20 months) into my ERGO Baby carrier and go. Now if I don't need much I put him in his stroller and go. He really hates sitting in a cart since he cant see where we are going.

I have twin infants..if its just me (which it usually is) they both stay in their carseat and i just stick them in the cart. If someone is with me i sometimes use the stroller.

I just used to carry my son in the car seat you can take out of the car and put it on the cart. Its heavy but its a lot easier then, carrying him, or taking out the stroller just to put him back in it in a few minutes.

When I had a two year old and a baby, I parked next to the carts in the parking lot, and put my toddler in the seat. I put the baby in the carrier in the back of the cart, and off we went!

its MUCH harder now that my kids are 14 months and 35 months. There is no target cart that really accomodates them - they dont stay strapped in to the two seater -its for bigger toddlers and my son runs away if he is not strapped down. I can only go to target with my husband, and then we push two carts.

If going into one store with shopping carts, I like to park out in the parking lot next to a cart left there (or near the cart corral) and put carseat in. (minimizes my guilt for leaving a cart in the lot when I also TAKE one from the lot.) For malls, my own stroller. If it is FOR SURE going to be a QUICK run in and out, with just a light bag's worth load, then I'd maybe carry baby (not a newborn but an upright baby) in my arms, but usually not.

With my second baby I put the car seat in the seat of the cart, but with my first one I didn't have a car, therefor neither a carseat, I also lived in a building in the 3rd floor and no elevator!
I also didn't have a Target so I mostly buy stuff from small stores in my town which is not like here where some places you can't walk to a store, back in my home town you had a lot of fresh food and some small stores with others (shampoo, paper towel, etc)
I would:
a) wait for some body to help me
b) do many small trips
I would put the baby on the stroller then a bag in the back of the stroller then I put there my stuff. Then went I went back to my building I would put the stroller against the wall, take the baby if I had few things I would carry my baby, the stroller and the bag in the stairs, but most of the times I had to leave the stroller downstairs and put the baby in the crib, then run downstairs for the stroller.
This was only until she learn how to walk, then she would walk up the stairs even if that took sooo long, a few times I had to wake her up because it was to heavy, poor little girl, but it was what it needed to be =0(
Then again no wonder why I lost all my baby weight within months, now look at me, I am spoil!! lol.

Depends on how much I need to get. If it was just me and a baby and I needed a few light things that I could fit in a basket - I used a stroller frame I have for my graco that is lightweight and infant car seat snaps into and then just held the basket. If I needed a lot more things, I would put the infant car seat in the cart (and if I had a second kiddo with me, put them in the front of the cart where the child seat is) and placed things around the infant car seat in the back or on the bottom of the cart. if I needed a LOT a LOT of stuff, I would wear my baby Bjorn and carry the tot around that way so I had more room in the cart :) Hope that makes sense. Call me a girl scout- I liked to be prepared no matter what the scenario was!

When my kids couldn't sit up yet, they stayed in the car seat and I sat it in the seat area of the cart. When they could sit up well, they sat in the seat of the cart. It wasn't till I moved south (I'm from northern Indiana) that I would see babies in the carrier in the main part of the cart with food all packed around them (graco designs their seat so they sit on the top of the cart and kinda latch to it) or they are pushing the stroller while pulling the cart or have someone with them to help them shop. I always found that amusing! lol

I never felt safe with the car seat on top of the seat area so I sat it in the cart part and just put stuff in the seat part, underneath and around her! Now I have a cart cover that I try to remember to bring otherwise I just wipe wipe wipe!!
