Sightseeing Ideas in Georgia
My husband and I are taking a mini vacation in June to Savannah but will be doing some road tripping as well, as we are flying into Atlanta. I'm not against spontanaity, but our two year old will be coming along so I would like at least some activities and/or places to stay planned in advance. Is anyone familiar with Georgia and if so, can you recommend any sightseeing ideas and family-friendly/reasonably priced places to stay? We have 6 days and no agenda planned yet so open to lots of suggestions! Thanks!!!

My husband travels to Georgia often. He said there is a really nice riverwalk and a trolley ride in Savannah. He said there is a lot to do in Savannah and you won't have trouble finding things to there. He said in Atlanta there is a new aquarium that is supposed to be pretty nice. Have fun!!

You have to see Stone Mountain right outside Atlanta. It is really cool. I saw it as a kid and then again as an adult and it was still just as amazing. What is there NOT to see in Savannah. It is beautiful. That's about all I can suggest.

I use to spend every summer in Atlanta and loved it. I've also been to Savannah a few times. They're is a pirate themed restaurant in Savannah that is fun( it's kid friendly), sorry can't remember the name. Savannah has a neat little shopping strip, and Tybee Island (beach)..lot's of old war sites, old southern big mansions to tour. It's the old deep south down there. I think they have those trolley's or horse carriage tours.
Atlanta has a ton of stuff I really enjoyed shopping at Underground, Coke Museum thing, Atlanta Braves games, Stone Mountain they have fireworks and laser light shows at night, CNN center, Six Flags, there are a ton of family style southern restaurants where it's serverd family style those are good and a great experiance.
Georgia is a neat state. The have great peaches, and boiled peanuts you buy on the side of the road.

Hi, K.,
We lived on Wilmington Island (just outside of Savannah) when I was a little girl. There are some neat things to see and do in the area--historic homes, civil war battle sites, great food, beautiful settings. There are all kinds of tours you can do, from walking to trolley. Two websites that might have things to help you plan in advance are: http://www.savannah-visit.com/ (there is a special offers section on that one) or http://www.savannah.com/index.cfm (you can order a visitor's guide from there or view it online). One of the places that sticks out in my memories is The Pirates' Den (I could be wrong on that name, but it was something to that affect--I'm guessing it's probably still in business, but you never know!)...it was a restaurant that had themed rooms--including one where it was "raining" and another that had a "secret tunnel" with a pirate standing guard. It was by the waterfront somewhere.
If you head further south, you can visit St.Simons Island--my aunt and uncle still live there, and it's just lovely. There's a fun pier, mini golf, and ice cream/shops on one part of the island. There's great beaches there, too. The drive down is pretty with the moss on the trees over the roads and such.
There are also other places not too far of a drive as well...Hilton Head, Tybee Island, South Carolina, etc. We used to swim on Tybee Island when I was a kid--the dolphins would play around us, and my parents were always comforted that they were nearby to protect us. That's been many years, so I have no idea what it's like now, but it was nice then.
Have a fun trip :)
Blessings,
V.

My older brother and his family live in Atlanta, and the last time I was there he took us to the arboretum, which was very nice and kid friendly. Lots of paths to run around on and a great tropical frog exhibit.

Just got back from Atlanta with our 2 year old and she loved the aquarium, Field Museum ( which is just for kids... dinosaurs, Imax, hands on stuff...) and the childrens museum. We went online and purchased a family pass to the events called the Atlanta Pass. I can't give andvice on the hotels as I was there for conference... I will say this do not go to the Westin on Peachtree!!! AWFUL.
