Side Effects of Prevacid in Kids
Hi ladies, wondering if anyone's kids are on Prevacid and do they have any side effects. My son has been on it about a month and has started having loose stools and stomach cramps. Any info or suggestions would be great-thanks.

Both my daughters are on Prevacid. The 9 mo old has no side effects as far as I know. But the 3 yr old (on it since she was 5 mo old) has always had loose stools and tummy aches. I read loose stools as a side effect on the informational sheet you get from Walgreen's. The gastroenterologist also said it was normal although I would love for her to have normal bowel movements. But she has no other option right now. She would be worse off without Prevacid.

Hi J.,
Yes, my daughter had the same issues with Prevacid but, was fine with Zantac. You may want to consider other drug options.
Good Luck!

Actually, my daughter has been on Prevacid for 6 months and she has the opposite problem...she is constipated. But she had diarreah when she was teething...

My son was on it for a year and now takes it when needed. We did not have this side effect with it. We did have his growth slow significantly but as soon as he stopped taking it everyday he started growing at a greater pace.

that is not a side effect of prevacid it sounds like a food allergy most likely milk or wheat. I do want you to know if your child is on prevacid solutabs it does have lactose and if your baby is lacgtose intolerant that will cause stomac cramps, loose stools etc. If it is the suspension or you open up a capsule and give it to them that is free of the milk lactose product. hope that helps and please tell your dr or GI that the solutabs have lactose so he doesnt hurt another childs tummy.
good luck,
J.
all my kids were on every PPI there is out there so please if they change it fee free to ask me and it was all food allergies not reflux except for one of my kids it helped.
