Sick Sick Sick!

So I am only 7 weeks pregnant with my second baby and it seems SO MUCH worse than last time. I haven't left the house in 4 days! (well I went to the doctor yesterday but I HAD to!) My OB put me on Zofran (which is excellent) but it only takes away the nausea. i still almost vomit through out the day and it doesn't make me feel better! I still really can't enjoy my other son. As each day passes it is getting harder to eat. I am hungry constintly but everytime i put anything in my mouth I want to vomit. its only 7 weeks in and I am EXHAUSTED!

Edit: I guess my other question is did any of you woman who worked take off work for this time period because your were sick!? I couldn't see myself going back to work like this... I can barely take care of my son...

What can I do next?

I am 22 weeks and just stopped vomiting. I know that's not comforting, but I'm still alive!! hehehe
Preggo Pop Drops and Lifesaver Peppermints REALLY helped. I didn't start using them until later, and I wish I would have tried them sooner.

I am so sorry you are feeling miserable. That is to bad. I was not really sick with my first two girls, but with my son, I was. I felt better once i hit the third month mark. Do you have crackers on hand all the time? THat might help. And when you go to sleep at night, keep some right by your bed and eat a couple before you get out of bed. That has helped alot of my clients and also me with me son when I was pregnant.

Sorry you are sick, but, how exciting for you. My remedy for being sick is ginger (ginger ale, ginger cookies) and the sea band bracelet. My husband picked one up for me at the store and I wore it every day. It is also important not to let your stomach get empty even if you only eat crackers. It's like your body's way of reminding you to eat for your little one. Hang in there, girl!

I was terribly sick with both of children. I lost 15 lbs in the first few weeks because I couldn't keep anything down. My doctor's recommended FTAN. It is a drug that is made at Mar-Main Pharmacy in South Bend (but they will ship it). It is simply a combination of vitamin B, an antihistamine, and an anti-nauseant. I swear by it!! It worked wonders for me. Good luck and I hope you feel better.

haha are you kidding? i am 15 weeks pregnant and i still vomit but it's getting better. don't worry it's normal and will probably get better. i throw up EVERYTHING including saltine crackers and cherios, hell i even throw up WATER. and if i take ONE BITE of the wrong food, i keep heaving until every frigin last morsel i ate is gone!

I am a teacher and asked my boss point blank what he wanted me to do. I said "ok you've got a choice. Either I stay home and you get a sub for me, or i come to work exhausted and green and you watch my class for 5 minutes every hour while i run in the back and throw up. I was surprised that he chose the second option! and he has, on many occasions, had to run in and teach for me for 5 minutes till i'm back from throwing up! and teaching SUCKS with no energy and sickness!

but on the other hand, if i were home i'd dwell on my sickness more. it's probably best that you work for as long as you can just for your own sanity cuz otherwise i'd guess you'd feel unproductive and wasted and self-pitying more. At least that's how i'd be.

Hi K.-
I too, was very sick during my pregnancy. I FEEL YOUR AGONY!!For me, it started in the 7th week and ended in the 16th week. Longest 9 weeks of my life. I remember that magic day it stopped. My OB also put me on Zofran which subsided the nausea but I was still sick. Absolutely nothing worked that anyone suggested to me. I threw it all up. I have a 10 month old and my husband and I were planning on starting to work on baby #2 in a few months. I'm TERRIFIED of getting sick again. My daughter will be walking soon and I just can't imagine having to take care of her and feel so miserable. You might want to try sour, hard candies. It didn't completely stop the vomitting, but I think the sour somehow distracted me. Sounds weird, but it worked. Not sure if you're working, but if not, get you and your baby out of the house; force yourself. Take some plastic baggies and take him to an indoor mall and walk around. Distraction works. There are lots of bathrooms around and not many people during the day. Good luck and remember you're not alone. Look on the bright-side, in a short time, the nausea will end and you'll have a beautiful little baby.
