Sick Kid Advice

Hey Moms,
It's only 5:30 here in AZ so no Dr availbale and there are no advice nurses available anywhere. Anyway, daughter has a fever, went to Dr. yesterday and diagnosed bronchitis. Over night she started throwing up and talks of seeing double. Any ideas? Dr. doesn't open for 3 hours, not sure if we should go to emergency. She now fell back asleep, so we are just waiting it out a bit.
Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi. it is hard to give such advice to someone i don't know but I will do my best: I don't know from your post the age nor if she is on antibiotics, but if she is old enuf to say she is seeing double...I would, not in a panic....call my best friend/sister/mom first to double check my perspective (and someone who knows you and your daughter0, and if she/he agrees, I would go to the emergency room....

GO BY YOUR GUT INSTINCT....

Does she have any neck pain, pain, dizziness? Is she on antibiotics for bronchitis? any other medications that could make her sick? Is it after she throws up that she sees double, because that can occur with vomiting( especially if it is extremely forceful. ). However, if it continues for a prolonged amount of time, it could be something more. Sometimes kids will vomit due to excessive phlegm. It will irritate the stomach, and will induce vomiting to get rid of it. Keep her hydrated, check her temp, and I would call the doctor as soon as you can.

Dear mom, you can always go to an urgent care. There are children-only urgent cares in the valley. Good night pediatrics is one of them. Also, your insurance should have a 24/7 nurse line that you can call and your pediatricia should have an after hours number. Good luck!

It's better to be safe than sorry. Call the ER and ask for the call nurse. Tell them that you don't want to come in if they don't recommend it, but are very concerned.

Bacterial Meningitis can be tricky and move fast. Check out these symptoms and get your daughter to the ER if they seem to match up. http://www.bing.com/health/article/healthwise-1250006842/...

Did they do a swab for Strep? My son complained of seeing weird when he had Strep...

Vomiting could be due to the phlegm she is coughing up from the bronchitis if she is then swallowing it (try to get her to spit it out), or it could be from antibiotics, or stomach acid if she isn't eating much, or some combination. Fever often causes double-vision or lack of focus - you don't say how high it is. So does a "bronchitis headache" from all that coughing. Try cooling her down with cool compresses or a cool bath if her fever is high. If it's over 103.5, take her in. Otherwise, wait to call, but then be insistent that you get a prompt response.

So long as she's not dehydrated, I'd wait til 8:30, but if you're really concerned you could call the pedi on call.
Hope she feels better soon!! =o)
