Showertime

I find it easier to take a shower with my 6 month old than to give her a bath. We have a seat built into our shower so I can sit with her and I usually put her on a towel so she doesn't slip. Is it ok to shower like this?

What can I do next?

I have 4 children (11,6,3,7 months) and have always showered with them. My baby always showers with me. I wash him and then lay him on his back with his head on a washcloth while I shower. This is much easier until they can bathe on their own.

Hi E.,

I say, if it works for you, do it. If she enjoys showers (some dont like the water spraying them) I would continue to take her in there with me and clean her up in there. The difficult part is as she gets older she will want to crawl/walk around in the shower and that might not be so safe if she slips and falls. I always had my little ones shower with me from the time they were little (it was so much easier and convenient). The only problem was that I always needed another person to hand the baby to once they were all clean (I didnt have the little seat like you do.). I think the towel is a great idea to too keep baby from slipping.

Definately! My husband still showers with our 26 month old son and my son loves it. I believe it promotes bonding and attachment when they can feel you so close to your skin. In my opinion its great!

Are you kidding...I can't wait to take a shower with my baby, just so I can get one in! At three months I don't think she's quite ready since she can't sit up on her own.
You go for it Momma!

I don't see anything wrong with it for right now. I do shower with my 6 yr. old daughter, only because it is faster and I have a 20 month old that I have to watch, too. I have been giving my 6 yr old a bath in my bath tub, too. That way I can watch the baby at the same time. Although it takes my 6 yr old 30 minutes to get out of the tub! I will be teaching her how to take a shower by herself. We have already talked about it.

I have 3 children. All of them loved to take showers with both my husband, or myself. Sometimes it seems just quicker. It didn't seem to hurt any of them. My oldest is 10, then 8, the littlest is 2. The youngest likes to take a shower with anyone in the house that will let her. I don't see anything wrong with it.

Good morning E.,
We didn't have a bath with my first son. I had the baby bath that we did in the kitchen, but we used the shower. My son loved it. He and I or he and his das would take showers together and he is now 14 with no water phobias or family twitches. ha ha. You're doing fine mama! Keep up the great work! L.

I don't see why not =) After my daughter could sit up unassisted, she went from baths to showers. She loves showers with me, we just recently had to explain that daddy needed to shower alone. LOL! (she's four).

Is it ok??? seriously? that's your baby! of course it's ok, if you like it, than it's perfect!!! i bathed with my son until forever. i have a back condition and bending over a tub or holding him in the shower would have been impossible. always remember - this is YOUR life and you do whatever works for you!
happiness to you and your baby girl!!!

As long as you can keep a firm grip on her so she doesn't fall, I don't see any problem with it either.

Dear E.,

My husband and I showered with our kids when they were little. I never even thought about sitting them on the floor, we just held them (with a death grip!), or let them stand (when they were a little bigger). The other parent would stand by with the towel and the other child, and we would switch kids.

I don't see a problem with it, if it works for you.

Good Luck!

I can't think of any reason why not if you are comfortable with it. My kids were always so squiggly and slippery that I was too nervous when I tried showering with them.

you willprobably get very different answers on this one but i also shower with my son and have been doing so since he was about 5 months. i have found it so much easier although sometimesat night he still gets a bath for fun because he loves water. our showers are morefun time for us ,we read water books and play water games .the only problem i have is it takes us along time to get ready and we probably waste more water than i would like.
hope this helps

hi, i think its totaly fine cause we have been doing the same thing for years with our girls-now 3 and 7 years old.wee started young at around 6 to 8 months. my hubby thinks its gross to be sittin in your dirty bath water(and now so do i) so the shower thing became so much easier now that they hardly ever have baths,if at all. plus i think it cuts down on water to take them together!

What every works: ) Also, the baby gets to see how you wash yourself so she can eventually copy you. Just another opportunity to teach her how to take care of herself.

I showered with my little one for her first 2 years. Now she takes a bath or shower on her own with help. Eventually they become independent and want to do these things on their own. No worries about her wanting to shower with you forever. Even if you have to cut it off, she will understand.

I'm a mother and a grandmother so I've been around the block a few times.

I would suggest that you do whatever you can to make bathtime easier for you... until she can sit up by herself. At that point you should bathe her by herself... not only does get her used to water and keep her from feeling that she NEEDS you with her--holding her--just to bathe... but it will also be funtime for her. Give her some toys... sit by the bathtub and let her go to town.

But don't worry about the mommy and me showers for now... there's not a thing wrong with that if it's easier on you.

It's awesome. and good for the environment!! I did this until my little one started asking a few too many questions about my anatomy, at about 2 1/2 years.

We have been showering with our baby since day one. It works for all of us. It is easier when my husband and I are both home so that we can pass her in/out of the shower safely.
Holding her in a towel is a good idea.

I have never done this myself, but know many people that do & don't see anything wrong with it. As long as your daughter is safe, do what works for you. One thing you may want to consider is that a bath is the great start to a bedtime routine for her....

As long as you hold on to her then you're fine. At some point you will probably want to ween her from that though since she might ALWAYS want to take a shower with you.
