Should I Make My Husband Go to the Doctor

About 3 days ago my husband started complaining about his lower back hurting. Now, on the third day he has an unusual looking bruise where the pain is(long and skinny horizontally across his lower back). He doesnt remember getting hurt and the pain doesnt ease up no matter what he does. Should I make him go to the doctor, which he hates to go with a passion, or does it sound like a pulled muscle? What can I do to help ease his pain?

What can I do next?

My husband had the same problem and it turned out to be a herniated disk. It isn't life threatening but the only thing he has found to ease the pain is prescribed medicine so you will most likely need to take him to a doctor. I've seen first hand how painful it is. If you can afford it, the doctor will most likely send him to a specialist like he did my husband and he can have a surgery done to fix the problem. My mother in law, and grandmother in law have both had it done and it worked wonders. My husband will have it done in a week. It's a simple procedure and is supposed to help.

Yes!! If he doesn't go, it will probably just get worse.

Take him to the doctor, my husband had a pain in his low back too but he didn't have any bruise.

Better to be safe than sorry. Make the appointment and go with him. I know he may not like it but you get to know what is going on first hand. Mine complained of back pain and hip pain and wanted a chiropractor to take care of things. Well, we went to the doctor for pain to find out that it was very serious and now we have to go for chemo treatments. What is is age? He was one that did not want to go until it is/was almost too late. So do take care of him.

If the pain doesn't get better with Motrin/Advil then he needs to see a doc. In the mean time, make sure he rests it and puts a cold compress on it (heat is not recommended). Let us know what happens!

Okay this is really far out there and I don't want to worry you but the same exact thing happened to my husband. He had the same pain that you are describing and was diagnosed with shingles after he broke out. Anyone that has had chicken pox can come down with it. It can be stress induced or if he has been sick and his immune system has been comprimised it can come out. It runs along a nerve pattern. My husbands went from his belly button around to his spine. He felt like someone had stuck a knife through his stomach and ran it to his spine. A series of blisters will come out along the area your husband says is hurting. kind of look like ant bites. My husband thought he had pulled a muscle too, but couldn't recall anything. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND he go to the Dr. If anything they can put him on Valtrex which is preventative and helps the break out. It is very very painful. My DH could not work for a week. Also make sure your children are current on there shots. They need to have been vaccinated against the chicken pox and they should be okay. Good luck and let us know what happens
