Shoe Suggestion Other than Crocs

I've always had a pair of Crocs for my boys to wear in the summer but my 5 year old is in between sizes and they just don't fit him. The 11/12's are too tight but the 13/14's are way too big, they wouldn't even be safe to wear because they slip off his feet too easily. I love the ease of these in the summer. Any suggestions for a similar brand where the sizing may be different?
I've bought the Keen style sandals before and he dislikes them because little rocks constantly get stuck in them.

What can I do next?

thanks, I'll check out some other brands! Sneakers are the safest but when headed to the beach or a quick errand it's nice to have something easy :)

My kids use to wear crocs. Now they wear lands end action sandals or their gym shoes. My oldest use to complain about rocks in her shoes. She has since learned to wear her gym shoes to the zoo, for instance, or any other place rocks bother her.

My kids don't like Keen. They say they are uncomfortable.

Tennis shoes? Especially for the 5 year old, he should be able to ties his own shoes by now so he can help the younger child tie is shoes too.

We bought crocs that went over his entire foot. The backs are not open which makes them a whole lot safer. He wears them alot during the summer but we wanted an option that would not fall off. They are easy to wash and clean so they are great for vacation. We went to a crocs store and they had many colors.

Have you tried different styles of Crocs? Check out their website or see if your local mall has one of their stores (we have one in the Florida Mall in Orlando).

They started making all kinds of different styles for adults and children. I love my Crocs they are the most comfortable shoes and most people don't even know they are Crocs.

I wish Crocs had half sizes! You might want to have him try on Crocs from Kohl's. When my son was between sizes, I bought him a pair of Crocs from Kohl's and they ran small The were the same size as the Crocs I had bought from Nordstrom, but for some reason, they were smaller, so they fit his feet perfectly.

Sometimes the different style Crocs fit a little differently, depending on the heel strap. Good luck!

Regular shoes? If he goes to public places like parks or a beach he really needs to have shoes and socks on to protect his health.

Many times people find razor blades that were used for cutting drugs, syringes, broken glass, and more in the sand of playgrounds. They also find mold, decomposed insects and animals, and fungus in playgrounds that have other types of surface.

Public play areas are not healthy for kids. I always clean their hands and faces before we get in the vehicle. They are covered with nasty stuff.

So if you're going somewhere you need the kids to wear sturdy shoes and socks will keep them from sweating in them and making them stink.

Tevas still makes water shoes/sandals with open toes. I love my Keens but he is yes, if you really GO anywhere fun, rocks get in the toes!

Well, I'm a Teva sandal fan myself (live in them from April through October), however I'm not sure they come in kid sizes and they might cost too much for a kid who will outgrow them in a year. I'll be interested to see the other responses--sorry I can't help more!

Another fan of the Lands End action sandals and pretty much all of their summer shoes. They hold up extremely well to summer activity. Our kids outgrow them before they start breaking down at all.

We often get DD open toed sandals from Target or wherever or the ones with the bump toe and little slits (required for some daycares/camps to cover their toes). You can get them at Sears, Old Navy, etc. The ones I got for DD at Payless have a pull to tighten them around the top of her foot.

ETA: They call them fisherman sandals http://www.payless.com/boys/sandals/ Or they have a "scout clog" that comes in half sizes.

Stride Rite makes great sandals. They velcro over the toes & around the ankle. You can buy them online (even Amazon). Great for the sand/beach.

Then we use those water shoes for actually walking around in the lake water so their feet don't get hurt by rocks. They sell these everywhere when beach/summer stuff is out.

Crocs are HORRIBLE they are so bad for your feet and back. They are kind of dangerous also. Buy tennis shoes and take 5 extra minutes to put them on.

Go to payless and get those slide on tennis shoes. they are made of canvas and can be tossed in the washing machine. my grandson has them in several different colors / styles he has some with black and white checks, some with the teenage mutant ninja turtles and some that are just plain black. his favorites were the ones with perry the platypus on them. crocks are not good for your feet. I would stay out of those altogether.

Have you tried Tevas? They strap on which are safer than the crocs, but are not as confining (closed) as keens.
