Shaving Cream/Gel vs Soap...

I was using soap (Dove) for the longest time to shave and it was alright. But recently I tried some shaving gel and my legs feel much softer and it was easier to shave--no nicks. Does anyone shave with soap? And if so, did you notice your legs being extremely itchy after shaving? I haven't been itchy since I've been using the shaving gel. Anyhow, just wanted to see who prefers what!

So shaving cream/gel or soap?

:)

So What Happened?

Thank you ladies for your advice! The cream/gel I started using was a Skintimate product! I haven't had any cuts/nicks since. :) I doubt I'll go back to using soap. Anyone use the Skintimate products? They don't seem to expensive.

Thanks again!
:)

as funny as it sounds..I never feel like i have enough money to "waste" it on shaving cream lol

I don't have a lot of money so I personally tend to NOT buy things that I dont think are TOTALLY NEEDED hehe so
I personally just use soap..but then again I can't really shave right now anyway cause my big ol' preggo belly is in the way :)

I use suave hair conditioner (it is cheap), but my legs are always itchy even when I use shaving cream/gel. So no matter what I use I have to use lotion after shaving.
If you found something that works tha is awesome!

God bless!

Neither! I'm another one who uses hair conditioner. I can't use conditioner every day in my hair, b/c it gets oily, but if I dont' use it about 2x a week, it gets too dry. Using it to shave helps me know that when I'm getting low on one, I'm getting low on the other. Then I put lotion on my legs as soon as I'm out of the shower, before they're completely dry, and no itching, like with soap.

Believe it or not, I don't use anything! I just make sure the water is running down the leg I'm shaving. Then I put on lotion when I get out of the shower.

There's a shave cream that is not soapy or foamy. It's called Lady Cremo (there is also a Cremo that is for men). It smells wonderful and works even better. And because it is a thick cream, it lasts forever, just a little dab goes a long way. I am one of those ladies with italian blood, and hair! :o)

I've been shaving with soap since college when I was too poor to use creams/gels.

I am Italian, so I likely have to shave more than the average person. My husband probably knows, but I always use his razors. He gets the good ones, and they make more of a difference than the soap/gel/cream.

The only good thing about losing most of my hair during chemo was that I only had to shave about 1 time/month at the most. :)

I have sensitive skin and do have itching when I use soap and I like cream better but so do my two oldest (7 & 9) and I sometimes find it used as fingerpaint all over the shower wall so I have started using Eucerin bars. It seems to be the happy medium. Not as drying as soap and not as expensive as cream.

I have never tried this..but read it all the time in magazines and such...."they" always say to buy a cheapie cheap brand of hair conditioner and use that. I do know gals who have tried it and say it works fantastic! Most of them also use a mens razor as they are less expensive for the better (more blades) unit.

I have had shaving issues for years and years and finally tried the Intuition razors once (more for space saving convinience for a travel situation) and have just used them ever since (I can use them several times..then jsut get the cheapie plain ones for underarm use). I have Italian heritage, so that comes into play with hair (UGH!), plus I have very particular skin...can only tolerate Baby Magic lotion or Cetaphil for attempting to soften.....

soaps and body washes dry out my legs but cheap suave hair conditioner works like a charm! in the winter my legs still get a little itchy (i just dry out all over in forced air heat) but lotion takes care of that.

I used soap for the longest time... then I switched to gel and I LOVE it! It makes my legs feel sooo much smoother and silkier, I get less nicks, and (best of all, for me) it's easier to tell where you already shaved! I used to have a "forgotten strip" of hair on my legs once in a while. If you buy the generic versions, it really isn't all that expensive...

I use my body wash, just cause I don't want to keep a shaving gel in my shower, I have enough stuff in there as is. But now that you mention it, my legs are a little dry and itchy after I shave, I might have to find some space for a shaving gel after all :)

I went to an "evening" party one time and one of the prodcts the my friend sold was something called Coochy Creme. It is for all over shaving and it is the BEST stuff I have EVER used to shave. It comes in (I think) 3 different scents, (my favorite is Plumeria) and it has the consistency of hair conditioner (or similar). It is specially formulated to be rash free . I have VERY sensitive skin, so I was a little leary about trying anything new. Now my 21 and 19 year old daughters use it as well (and expect it in their stockings every year at Christmas, lol) Men can use it to shave their faces as well and if you are interested or if anyone else is, I can find out how much she sells it for. (I get special price, so I don't know) It comes in 8 oz bottles. This product is truly amazing. B.

I use my body wash on a loufa (sp?) and shave that way. I've tried the gel stuff but I find it messy and a waste of money. I just use the Suave cherry blossom body wash for $2. BUT, I have no leg issues like some women have (i.e. senstive skin, flaking, course hair), so I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.
