Shark Mop or Bissel Steam Mop

Has anyone tried the shark mop as advertised on TV? Or the Bissel steam mop or another steam system? I'm specifically looking for mothers who have tried it on their sealed hardwood floors. It looks like it cleans very easily and you can wash the pad when you are done but sometimes I know the commercials seem better than the real thing. I'm looking for a way to clean my hardwood floors (most of my first floor is hardwood) quickly and effectively. I would love to hear from moms who have used the "Shark" mop on their hardwood floors or another steam system such as the Bissel steam mop. Thanks!

Well, I haven't tried the Shark Mop but I can recommend for hard wood floors the "Dirt Devil Broom Vac". I use that first then follow it by mopping with a Swiffer Wet Jet. The Dirt Devil has saved my house! I have a dog that sheds constantly and I was losing my mind b/c I didn't want it around with the little one. I love the broom. It has helped so much in keeping my wood floors clean. Hope my regimine helps you a little!

Hi K.,
I have the Shark Mop and it was the BEST investment. my only suggestion is to try finding it at a store. i ordered mine on through the tv and paid way to much. i also ordeded more pads and you really don't need more than it comes with. anyway- it's worth the money. i saw it a couple of weeks ago at Costco.
Have a good day!

HI K.,

Talk about perfect timing. I just purchased a Shark. I do not use mine on my wood floors, the installer said using a wet swiffer would work just fine. I absolutely love it on my kitchen floor, though (linoleum). My only complaint is that it is harder to push on the floor than you would think. In the commercials, it appears to just glide on top of the floor. In reality, you need to push pretty hard. It works great on the little crevices in the design of my floor (not my choice of floor) and on bathroom tiles, too. It cleans grout well. How new is your wood floor? Being that mine is brand new, I'm afraid to ruin it. If it were older, I'd try it. The product does say that it is safe for sealed wood floors. My wood floor doesn't get that dirty, but the kitchen and the bathrooms do and the Shark works great on that. If you can find one on sale or use the 20% coupon at Bed Bath & Beyond, I think it is well worth the price. Godo Luck~! L.

I use it on my new hardwood sometimes. It leaves the wood dull so about once a month I use the regular mop and murphy;s oil soap to shine them back up. I love it on my laminate flooring on the second floor though. The pad will never be white again after the first use even after bleaching it but it was still usable. I'm just not as happy with it as I thought I'd be. After the pad gets wet it just seems like your moping with water. My whole house is hardwood or laminate and I mop all my floors 2x a week. Also if there any dust left o nteh floor the pad pushes it into a line and you have to use a paper towel to wipe it up.

My daughter has one and loves it on her hardwood floors. I liked it so much i got one too. We found ours at Sam's and a hand steam cleaner came with it. Check around so you won't have to pay the shipping. The only drawback is washing the cleaning pad. It calls for no fabric softner which is hard to do, you can't just do a whole load for one pad without fabric softner. hope this helps. I am sure you will like it. L.

I do not use it on my hardwood floors b/c they are not sealed. I do use it in my 3 bathrooms, kitchen, and mezanine area. I feel like the steam is really killing the germs. It is a little hard to push, but not tremendously hard. I wash the pads with my towels. I wouldn't pay full price for it, but if you had a coupon go for it. Hope this helps.

Hey, K.

I got the Shark mop back in October and really like it. It's very easy to use. I do want to buy additional pads because they dirty very quickly and only two come with the mop. It's works great on my kitchen floors, tile and sealed wood floors. Admittedly, I use it paringly on my wood floor because I worry about repeated use on that surface. It's great for clean ups after spills or heavily traffic areas.

I am a Grandmother - 56 years old, and subscribe to MammaSource to keep up with good tips to use with the grandkids. Enjoy your mop.

Hi K.

I have one. I really like it for my tile Kitchen, but NOT for my hardwood floors. I felt like it took the shine out of my floors and made them seem dull. I clean up any sticky stuff on my hardwood and then just use a dust mop with Orangeglo cleaner.
The one thing I have noticed with my shark mop for the kitchen is that you have to sweep or vacuum very well...if not you tend to push around lines of dirt. I do feel like it gets my kitchen floors clean. Just my opinion!

I have one and love it. I have 4 sons and sealed hardwoods mainly downstairs. Yes, you do have to sweep/vacuum first but I have to do that almost everyday anyway. The pads aren't a big deal to wash. I wash them separately b/c they get really dirty. I think my mop came with 2 but I bought an extra pack of them. I don't know how good or not it is for sealed hardwoods but frankly I'd rather have it clean! It doesn't take long at all to mop with the Shark. I don't leave the mop sitting on the floor. You do have to put some muscle behind it when mopping. That's the only bad thing. I bought mine at Bed Bath and Beyond with one of their coupons that they send out.

I have sealed hardwood floors and I love it but it takes a couple of pads to do a large area, so I would buy extra pads if I were you.
