Shampoo for Sensitive Skin (Eczema)

When I brought my now 5 month old son home from the hospital, he had reactions to soaps that I tried. The only one that worked was California Baby Super Sensitive hair and body wash. I also use the Calendula Cream for any scratches or rashes that he, my older son, or myself gets. They are usually gone by the next morning. I would highly recommend their products. I have a friend you has the other skin rash that you get all over, I can't remember what it is called, and she used the Calendula Cream and loved it. Worth a try and easier than trying to order it.

I agree with the ladies that suggested a shampoo from Melaleuca. They have several wonderful products that specifically target ezcema. I also want to suggest their multivitamin as well. ALL ezcema is systemic so it is coming from the inside out. An absorbable vitamin will heal ezcema as well prevent it as long as there are no overpowering toxins being absorbed as well (like pesticides, preservatives, processing with antibiotics and hormones, this also means any fast foods). My Dad suffered with Eczema, Psoriasis, and general dry skin for most of his 90 years. Five years ago, we changed his diet and the products he uses and his skin has probably never looked as good as it does now.

Hi. Have you ever tried California Baby? My 6 year old son has eczema and I still use it on him. It says it is recommended for those with eczema or sensitive skin. It does have Aloe in it but I don't see anything about Lanolin...? I get it at Whole Foods. They have small bottles but you can ask them to get the large ones if you like it. It is also tear-free. They also have sunscreen. The products are not cheap but I cannot find anything else I like better. I also use Blue Lizard sunscreen though which seems to do fine on my child with eczema, but I like the face stick sunscreen by California Baby.

I have not tried many of the products mentioned in the other emails, but my son who is now 6 yrs. old, has always had problems with eczema. I did try Aveeno products, Aquaphor, and a prescription cream, nothing really helped him. I read an article about the benefits of natural soaps made with goats milk and tried that, he has had no problems with eczema (or breakouts) since!! Last year I wanted to see if he had outgrown it, so I used regular bar soap, within four days the eczema was back. I will not be without 'his' soap again. I have always had problems with acne and I have been using a Rosemary/Tea Tree soap that she makes and it has made a huge difference in my skin.
I also use ALL FREE AND CLEAR laundry detergent, that doesn't irritate his skin.

Everything you can buy at a regular grocery store is probably going to have skin sensitizers like sodium laureth sulfate and propylene glycol. I use Jason's Kids Only shampoo and Dr. Bronner's All in One for babies. Check out www.skindeep.org.

Both my kids have experienced different skin issues but these products are very gentle and soothing. Eczema, however, is usually caused by food allergies and inflamation. I treat mine with a gluten free diet and aspirin in addition to using SLS free shampoo, body wash, and tooth paste. My skin is clear now.

Have you tried Cetaphil? It's recommend by a lot of people for eczema. I used it for my daughter who had excema when she was very little - 3-4 mnths old. It doesn't suds up like shampoo/soap - but, that is why it is mild.

Neutrogena products are also very good for sensitive skin - and I've been told by many people Aveeno isn't a good product to use - even the Aveeno baby line. Neutrogena actually has more natural/mild ingredients. I am a natural-as-can-be momma, so, I try to look for stuff with the best ingredients.

Also check her diet - there are a lot of foods that can increase eczema symptoms like citrus.

Your daughter is allergic to lanolin? Are you using Lansinoh or another brand? Lansinoh is the only pure-lanolin brand. I've just never heard of anyone being allergic to it, so I was just curious.

I like the Aveeno baby wash and shampoo. I use very little on their little heads though. The soothing relief line is great for eczema. The baby wash (not good for hair really) and lotion are great. I don't think any of them contain lanolin but you might want to double check.

My daughter has the same problem. I'd recommend trying Aveeno products (note:walmart has their own less expensive versions of some of the Aveeno products & we've had no problem with our daughter using them. The Walmart versions are usually on the shelf right next to the name brand).

My niece has eczema and uses an oatmeal based product. Not sure which one. But she has also cut out most sugars from her diet (well her parents cut it out) and she has really been fine. She still eats fruit, but that's it. The eczema seems to be very mild now. Huge difference for her. Thought you might want to know in case this could help you. Good luck.

P., I have tried most the products listed here, the oatmeal stuff, Aveno, cetaphil, aquaphor, all of that... My boys had to be on a prescription skin cream all the time and we still had breakouts. The only thing that has made a difference is Melaleuca.

Since we switched to melaleuca their condition has greatly improved. They have everything from soap, shampoo and lotion (Renew, best I have ever used, far exceeds Eucerine) to laundry products and cleaning supplies, vitamin supplements and other health and wellness products. They are also a very environmently friendly company, very natural products. It has made all the difference in our home. I've even noticed an improvement in my allergies.

I agree with Amber K. and Marci W. My boys had eczema and I'd also tried all the different products and creams on them with no cure. However, since I've converted my home to Melaleuca's products, my children's eczema is gone. I recommend you definelty go that route as well as explore the possibility of food allergies.

My daughter also has eczema and we used Aquaphor body wash on her hair for a while. I now use Suave Naturals which doesn't irritate her skin and the bonus is that it is cheap. We use Dove soap for sensitive skin on her body. The bar and not the liquid. That is what the pediatrician recommended. Because it has lotion in it, the tub tends to get very cloudy after using it. Arbonne International has a wonderful baby line with a hair and body wash and there is also an oil (all botanically based with NO mineral oil or lanolin) which have worked on many kids with eczema both scalp and body.
