My son is 5 years old and has a shaking problem in his hands. His teacher is really conserned and brought it to my attention. He seems to shake alot when he is writing, tracing and cutting. I thought that maybe it was because he was concentrating really hard but the shaking is really bad and it makes his writing look like scribbles. This this common or just a phase I really don't know what to do or what can I do about this. Tomorrow he has a Dr's appointment. But what I wanna know is there anyone else that has had this problem or children with the same thing.

What can I do next?

I don't think I'm any help. However, my brother and I have a constant shake and we do not know what causes it. It gets worse at times and other times we don't shake where it is noticeable at all. We've never been able to figure it out. I have noticed that it gets incredibly worse if I'm under intense stress though...

I started shaking once I hit my early teens and have had all kinds of test to make sure it was not Parkison's. I was diagnosed with essential tremors, which is just a nerve problem that causes my hands to shake. My hand writing is awful and I am 24 but the choices for me were shake or take antiseisure medicines, which I chose not to, the shaking I got use to. So don't worry, since he is so young, it probably is nothing serious.

If he is nervous that might be the cause or maybe a drop in blood sugar. My husband's best friend shakes sometimes, I forgot what it is called, but he's fine.

My son had a similar thing in that he developed a twitch when he was 8. He eventually outgrew it, the Dr. never could come up with an explanation.
