Every month a few days before and the first day of my period I feel terrible, like I have the flu. The fatique is debilitating, I cannot make it throught the day and literally can sleep all day and all night. I feel achy all over, my hands swell and I get a migraine. I am irritable because I feel so lousy. I have seen 2 ob/gyn's and they do not seem to understand what I am going through. They tell me that alot of women get "flu" like symptoms prior to their period. Is that true? I cannot believe that there isn't something that I could do to feel better, this is not right.

My primary doctor recently started me on prozac 20mg once a day because it is often used to treat pms symptoms, this is my first cycle since I have been on the prozac and it has not helped. Maby the dose is too low or I have not given it enough time?

Has anyone else experienced these symptoms? Can anyone help, feeling like I have the flu several days each month is really having a negative impact on my life!!!

ps: I take B12 injections every 3 months for inability to absorb B12, I am current and my blood work is normal and I do not have iron deficiency anemia.

So What Happened?

I recently stopped taking Topamax which I was taking for chronic migraines and my last period was much better, so I suspect that the Topamax was causing alot of my symptoms. If I feel better next month, then I will know for sure.

Prozac the sure all for us complaining pms women. Well you can bet if a man had a period they would do better then prozac.

O.k. looks like you like I have to go onto the computer and find a doctor that does bioidentical hormone replacement, silva hormone test are done. yes it's hormone's and you needs to see someone who specialize in it usually they are an ob/gyn. If you have ever read any of Suzanne Somers books she talks about it. I'm looking for a doctor now to help me with it, many are out there it's just finding them. It's for pms, peri menopause, menopause...things happen to your body and sometimes your body needs help.

I too was put on Prozac 10mg for sever pms, which was actually diagnosed as pmdd, and it really has helped me. I only take it for about 10 days a month, the week before my period. I did notice a difference the first month, but noticed more after that. I think you'll find that it is helping, it just take your body some time to adjust to it. Give it 90 days, if you still don't feel better, your dose should be increased.
