Hi, all... I need some help here. My 21 mo son has had severe diaper rash off and on for weeks now. The past 2 days are the worst ever (with diarrhea). Balmex is not working anymore. Yesterday, I found some left over Rx cream.... it worked wonderfully, but it's empty now.

What else can I do?

Anyone else have some left over Rx cream? (Can't get medicaid and can't afford insurance and healthykids is dragging it's feet with our application)

Thank,
M.

What can I do next?

M., Try "triple paste" go to the pharmacy and ask for it you don't need a prescription and it worked great for my daughter. Also I'd watch his diet to see if something he's eating is triggering it.Angie

M.,

My youngest had the worst diaper rash I had ever seen at about 5 weeks old. We tried Balmex and the Bodreux's Butt Paste and neither worked, I then tried A&D Ointment and it cleared it up in a matter of hours.
Hope you find some relief for the little guy soon.

Hi M., My daughter got a very bad rash with open sores when I started her on milk, come to find out that she had an "allergy" to cows milk that was causing the rash. SO, my first suggestion would be to consider what is causing his rash? New soap? diapers? food? THEN, I took her to doctor and they gave me script for cream but it didnt work either. What finally cleared it up was Burts Bee's Diaper Rash ointment. It is about $8 for 4 oz tube but it did really work for her. I had to buy it at Natures Finest Foods on Central ave (not sure if you are local to St. Pete or not)..Hope this helps!

Here is what you do. Zinc oxide, malox, cortizone cream. Mix, 1/3 of each all together and mix it up real good. It will take the red out right away! This works, trust me, I used it out of desperation!

My son had such sensative skin as an infant - when he began teething he developed the worst diaper rash (from Diarreha) I tried various ointments with NO LUCK!! While standing in line at the grocery store (to purchase yet ANOTHER type of ointment) an elderly lady behind me noticed what I was buying and recommended I try using CORN STARCH (place in the freezer to cool prior to using). I was surprised at her suggestion but at my wits end purchased a box (a whopping $1.29) Not only did it clear up my son's almost overnight it did not burn or irritate his skin, rather cooled it off with much relief. Good luck!

M. you could buy some over the counter monistat cream, most diaper rashes that do not go away on there own are yeast, I would also sit him in a warm bath nightly and let him run around with his daiper off as much as possible....daipers hold in moisture-even when they aren't wet....so let it dry out as much as possible

Hi! Nothing is worse than a bad diaper rash. The only thing that helps my daughter when she gets a bad one is to lather it with Buttpaste and then I also buy the Aveeno bath soak and give her 2-3 bath's a day in it and it clears up within 1 day. I think it has oatmeal in it and says on the box also good for diaper rashes. To get the diarrhea to stop do the BRAT diet. someone from this site recommended it and it really works. Bannana's, rice cereal, apple sauce and toast. Cut back on the amount of water you give her cause that will cause him to have runny stools also when he is going through this, try giving him diluted juice.

Hope this helps!!

Triple paste has always worked well for my baby. She used it almost the whole time that she was in the NICU when she was born. Plus she gets frequent diaper rashes still. There has been times that we have used Silverdeen (prescription) but most of the time we use the triple paste. I always stick with the $9 tube. The tub is $20 and I don't like that you would be putting your hands in it again and again.... Good luck.

I have heard so many people say that Triple Paste works great as well as Boudreau's Butt Paste. However, my kids have gotten bad rashes that aren't cleared up with just diaper rash cream. I would first try Nystatin...it is for yeast infections & some will say to try Monistat or something similar over the counter stuff but Nystatin is MUCH cheaper! I'm pretty sure it is quite cheap (I pay a co-pay and it's always less than that). When Nystatin didn't work, I was prescribed silver sulfadiazine cream which pretty much dries up open sores. I think it's similar to what they put on newborn's umbilical cord - it makes the sores turn gray but it pretty much "zaps" them dry. This cream is reasonable as well. I'd call the pharmacy and ask about the cost - check Walmart too. Not sure, but you may not even need a prescription (you don't in Canada) but it is kept behind the counter. Update us on what worked for you!

Hello M.,
My favorites are Buttpaste and the Dr. Smith's ointment. You can get them at Target, Walgreesn or CVS. My son had horrible diaper rash, and those both worked great! M.

We use A&D The zinc oxide cream... we tried balmex and it doesn't seem to help, the A&D cream and ointment!!! One is in a blue and white tube, and the other is in a golden yellow and white tube.. and I think its only $5.00

Either of them.. Both work well.. the ointment is more to protect and keep dry, which I use at every diaper change, and the cream is to heal... His ped. recommended it to me!!! Hope that helps.. Good luck!!

I have used Triple Paste on my daughter and it worked when none of the others did. I purchased it at Target. They have a tube and a big tub. The tub was something like $17 but I have had the tub for months now. Good Luck!

Hi M.,
My 4 1/2 month old daughter just got over her severe diaper rash from diarrhea. Before we took her to the doctor we spent a whole day leaving her diaperless and then just washing her off when she went to the bathroom. I know that can be cumberson but it will help. (the doctor said that was best thing without having any cream)I have some left over cream which I will be glad to give you. Our doctor Rx it because she was worried that the rash would get fungal. I have been without insurance as well and totally understand. Just e-mail me and I will try to get it to you. ____@____.com
Sincerely,
A.
