I'm not sure if this is related to my last pregnancy (my baby is 3 months old) at all or toting my little girl around but I'm gettin very sick of waking up in the middle of the night with mid back pain so bad i can't move. It wall started i guess a couple of months ago. It started hurting on my right side and when i slept on my left most of the time it wouldn't hurt. Then it got to where i couldn't sleep in my bed AT ALL. I moved to the recliner chair and slept in that pretty good but then that even started to bother me after awhile. So i moved to the couch. I could sleep on the couch for the most part but i would still wake up with some aches in my back. I went back to my bedroom this past week and I have woke up everyday and had to take meds to be able to get back to sleep. It has spread across my whole mid back still hurting more on my right side. I'm wondering what this could be and how I can get rid of it. Could it possibly have anything to do with my epidural? Or did i mess it up toting the little one up and down the stairs? I'm considering investing in a tempur pedic bed, but those are LOTS of money. I'm at a loss as to what to do. If by chance i pulled a muscle how long would it last, and would it or could it get worse...This is really beginning to bug me, I'm to young to be having this. lol! please if anyone has any advice help!
also when i was pregnant i had bad kidney stones. This kind of pain doesn't fee like that because its m ore in my middle back just under my shoulder blades. when i passed the kidney stones it was always like lower back and stomach. *updated*

So What Happened?

thanks you guys! after reading about the pinched nerve or being out of "alignment" ive decided that after christmas i will go to the chiropractor and see what happens from there. Me and my childs dad are not married though we should be! we have been together for 7 years but since we are not married i don't have insurance so i think i'll start off with a chiropractor first! thanks again and i'll let ya know what happens....MERRY CHIRSTMAS!

I agree with the last response. I found out during my last pregnancy that my pelvis was tilted. My OB sent me to a Physical Therapist and she gave me some strengthing exercises and exercises to readjust. It really helped, and it would keep you from having to start going to a Chiroprator if that's what it is. Good luck.

I had this type of pain during my pregnancy. I bought a temperpedic matress topper from Sam's club and it worked great (but is a lot cheaper). Good luck!

M.,
Hi maybe you should try not toting your daughter around as much and use a heating pad for 20 minutes at a time. Call your doctor see if you take some medicine for back pains. I always like to soak in a hot tub, but being pregnant may not be a choice for you. Speak to your doctor make sure its not a kidney infection of something like that. Good luck, let me know what they say.

It could be from the epidural, but you still might want to talk to your doctor. See if they will send you for an MRI, they can detect nerve and bone damage. I had some problems for 4 or 5 months after my epidural. That's been over 5years ago and sometimes it'll still hurt but no where near as bad. Hope you feel better soon.

I also think you should go see a chiropractor. After my last pregnancy my lower and mid back hurt like crazy, everyday. It just never got better and started to get worse. When I went I found out that my pelvis was out of alignment and that was pinching nerves and causing "friction" in my back with every movement. Normally when you are pregnant, the extra hormones help relax your pelvis for childbirth and shortly after delivary it naturally goes back, but mine didn't and my day-to-day activities had it all out of whack. (one of my legs was actually like 1 inch shorter than the other!!) I see him regularly now and consider him to be a Godsend.

I think it is important to make sure you have good sleeping habbits. Try sleeping with a pillow between your knees and only sleeping on your sides. It is helpful for me to also make sure my arms hug around a pillow also. The pillow ensures that your form is square for the duration of your sleep. I know that if I don't, I will pay dearly for it..and I have more than 10 herniated disc and some protruded disc as well. Back pain is just a fact of life for me. The pillow idea may be the best and simplest change you will have to make.
Good luck!

I've been having some backpain since I had mine. A friend of mione told me that it might be my birthcontrol. I've never been on any b4 and it's doing a number on my body. Talk to ur doc. see if it's the pill(if ur on one) and go to the chiropracter. good luck, hope u get to feeling better.

I would go see a chiropractor, and if that doesn't help, ask your doctor. I can't say if it could be from the epidural... I didn't have one, so I don't know what pain is associated with that... But I do see a chiropractor regularly, and that helps my back pain. I herniated a disc in my lower back a couple years ago and have lower back/hip pain fairly consistently. Getting adjusted helps keep the pain to a minimum. It only really bothers me if I overdo it or stay in one position for too long (like sitting on my butt on the couch). ;)

There are several reasons that you could be having mid back pain like that. 1.) Get checked for a UTI...some people don't show symptoms of urinary tract infections until it hits the kidneys...I'm one of those people. 2.) you may need to see a chiropractor...things get misalligned durning pregnancy sometimes. 3.) you could be getting muscle spasms that lead to pain that cause more muscle spasms even though you don't feel the spasming...in wich case a pain reliever and muscle relaxer should do the trick. Basically, you won't really know until you see the doctor.
