Serious Hand Help Needed!

I cook a lot, bake a lot, have two young kids so I'm constantly washing my hands. And they are in terrible shape. The holiday parties are coming up and I'd rather not be the lady with lizard skin hands lol. Anyone have any hand remedies, creams, lotions, tricks they love to get my hands looking better and feeling softer? Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for all the great suggestions! I'm going to hunt down some of these products and see what works for me.

I do have gloves but you moms & dads know how it is-start cooking, someone needs help in the potty, take off gloves, help, wash hands, more gloves, start cooking again trying to remember what you were doing, then the dog needs to go out, take gloves off, come in wash hands, more gloves.....by that point I usually end up saying screw the gloves lol!

Thanks again though. Great tips and tricks! That's exactly what I needed. Now just have to sit down and try them every night.

You can do a sugar/olive oil rub for a few minutes and then use a deep lotion and your hands will feel great!

Would you consider going to a cooking supply store and buying gloves? People who work in the restaurant industry always use gloves when cooking and preparing food. That way you might not have to wash your hands as frequently; you can just change your gloves.

Aveeno is a great lotion...not greasy, available everywhere, and absorbs fast. I like to put lotion on while my hands are still wet before I dry them off. For some reason this helps the lotion absorb better & faster. If you do it everytime you wash your hands, you will definitely notice a difference!

It might sound weird but it works great for feet so I know it would work great for your hands. Get Aquaphor from the baby aisle and a cheap pair of gloves. Coat your hands before bed with the Aquaphor and put the gloves on, sleep with them on overnight. Your hands will be silky smooth in the morning :)

I have found that if you put lotion on your hands (not cheap ones, but the good healing ones) and you do this at night and then put gloves on your hands. They are remarkably soft by morning. It may take a few times or do this every so often to keep them soft. I hope this helps.

I have done the extreme lotioning followed by socks or gloves at bedtime. It works, but you have to do it every night, and I tend not to. I would also put lotion at every sink.

Petrolium jelly and bag balm (Bag Balm can be found at Wal-greens). Bag balm works well for me - so does Vasoleine Petroleum Jelly). Oh, Aqua Phor is also very good - with Aqua Phor, make sure your hands are damp (just put a little water on them first) and then rub a generous amount all over your hands.

Buy CERAVI, it is the best cream-lottion that you'll ever try. It's about $15-18. You have to ask your farmacist for it, you don't need a prescription. My hands are like yours too and that is the ONLY cream that works wonders, please try it!

I use Burt's Bees Shea Butter Hand Repair Cream. Mine get so dry in the winter that they crack and bleed and this is the only product (I have used tons) that I have found that works for me.

I used to have really dry elbows as a child ad nothing seemed to help! My mom finally tried Bag Balm and it worked wonders. It's available at Wal Greens or your local animal feed/grain store. It was originally invented to be used on cows udders which get really chapped and flaky (thus the name Bag lol). Also, Corn Huskers works well. I've seen it at Wal Mart before. When my elbows were bad I used a combo of the two...would start with the Corn Huskers and then the Bag Balm. Did this twice a day everyday and now my elbows are gorgeous!!! :)

I've never done this with hands, only feet, but why wouldn't it work??? At bedtime, take some Vaseline and rub it all over your hands, then put saran-wrap around it and got to sleep, may want to put mittens or socks over your hands while you sleep. Does wonders for feet; I don't like sleeping with socks, but most of the time I roll around so much the saran-wrap falls off and i have vaseline over the sheets.
I'm very curious what people will say because my hands have made a turn for the bad and really peeling all the time...
