Hi. I have A TON of gently used clothing that are of really good quality (Juicy Couture, Ralph L., etc). I saved them for a while but they are really cluttering up my home....and the extra $ couldn't hurt. Any advice on someone reliable to sell it for me on ebay? THANKS!
Hi, everyone. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for your helpful advice. I ran today to Plato's Closet, as I have always been curious about how things work there. VERY INTERESTING. I think, though, that it is better for buying than for selling. For two VERY gently used $150.00 Juicy dresses, they said they would give me $16.00 total. After I caught my breath, I grabbed the dresses and ran....straight to an ebay service near Church/Skokie Blvd. They were VERY nice there, offering good advice (clothing does not sell as well as THINGS...or boots/jackets. Uggs, North Face do very well). They are located in a postal store, so shipping happens right there, too. They did tell me that Ebay upped its prices and takes percentages, and there are listing fees, etc. At this point, I think I am going to use that service, only because they are close to home and I REALLY must get ridfof this stuff now. Now that I have a better understanding of things, I could plan better. I will certainly look into CraigsList and the two other stores mentioned here.

There is a store in Chicago (Bucktown area) called the Second Child. They sell upscale clothes and have been there for years. Their web site is 2ndchild.com (I believe) the owners name is Amy and they do a great business. the only problem wiith ebay is that you have to charge a lot for shipping and ebay takes 10-15%.
Why don't YOU sell it on eBay?
It's very easy, and then you don't have a middle man to work through...

Good question L., I have the same problem, clutter everywhere and good quality stuff. I also was wondering how you go about selling it on Ebay, I've never done it before. Hope someone can explain that.
EBay recently upped their charge for selling stuff ontheir site. I am not sure if it would be worth it for clothes anymore since they don't tend to go for a whole lot. I also tried selling clothes to Once Upon a Child but found it to be a big hassle.
Last summer I sold some of my daughter's clothes through Craigslist and then we had a block garage sale and anything I hadn't sold through Craigslist I put out at the garage sale and I sold most of the clothes and then I donated everything that was left over for a tax write-off.

If you don't want to deal with ebay, you could go to Once Upon A Child (www.onceuponachild.com), a chain of individually-owned stores that sell gently used children's clothing and baby gear. It's not a consignment store -- they give cash on the spot. I'm not sure it's as much as you'd make on ebay, but it might be less of a hassle if there's a location that's convenient to you. There are several locations throughout the Chicago area -- one in the city at Foster & Harlem and several in the suburbs.
