My daughter started practicing at about 9 or 10 months, but wasn't a pro until about age 1 1/2 to 2.

I don't think there's a specific age, every baby develops at different rates. My youngest son is 1 1/2 and he is pretty competent but not a pro!

mine ate with a fork first. It was pre 1 yr it's been a while so I don't remember exactly. But we tried the spoon and it was just too frustrating so we went with the fork and they did well with it. it's easier to stab stuff then it is for them to get "hold the spoon flat "
