What can I do next?

I think it all depends on the kid, my son is 13 monthes and I just give him a spoon, and sometime he will pick up food and put it on the spoon and then put it in is mouth and other times he just plays with it, I think anywhere from 17-24 monthes depending on how often they practice is when they get really good at it, but That is just a guess

You could probably introduce a spoon and fork now. I buy the plastic kids ones and re-use them. My 2 year old got the hang of using them at about 22 months. I introduced them around 14 months for him but I started a little later than I should have.

Any time now you can start her with them. One for mommy to feed and one for baby to help. My son is 22 months old and proficient with spoon fork and is even doing well with a butter knife (under supervision). He has been using spoons ever since he started getting solid foods.
Good luck!

We started our son with a fork first, when he was about 10 months old, or so. He liked stabbing the food with it, and nibbling. He couldn't really get the hang of the spoon until he was around 18 months or so...and then it was still messy. Hang in there, offer them for your child to use, and it'll happen. Also, you could start using two spoons at each feeding. One for your little one to try, and one for you to actually get some food into her mouth.

My daughter is 16 months now and we are working on the spoon and fork. She acually fed herself yesterday with a little help me. If she shows interest in holding the spoon she's probley ready. They need guidance at first to master it, and alot of yeah's to lol! L. O'Neil

Hi Lisa,
I have a 12 month old that I always give a plastic spoon and fork to. Up until a few weeks ago he just played with them but lately he has been trying to do it himself. I end up helping him but he understands what they are for. I would start giving them to her and she'll learn what they are for very quickly. Good luck

Somtime between 18months and 2yrs old. But don't expect her to be "good" at it until closer to 3

I started letting my son eat with a spoon when he was about 6 months old, when he started eating solid foods, and started a cup. He could eat off a spoon and fork without help by 10 months.

Now that she's eating on her own, I would give her a spoon and see what she does with it. When my son was learning, I would feed him somethings with the spoon but let him try on his own as well. Good luck.

NOW!!!!! my son is 16 months old and i cant even tell you how long he has been eating with silverware. he is pretty good, of course not perfect, but very good... i suppose i started months ago because that for some reason was a pet peeve of mine to see children eating with their hands and partnts scooping food on the table not even using a plate of some sort. he wont even hardly let me feed him anything at all anymore. he likes to do it..
