I think it is a pretty name. I must be behind a little because I haven't heard anyone use that name before, at least not yet. I do like unique names though. My daughter is named Raeana, and if the spelling didn't help her any, now people usually don't pronounce it right either. That's okay though :)Congratulations on your due date, I'm due with another girl December 29, 2006. We plan on naming her Adelyn Marie. The story is that I saw the name on a gravestone and I thought it was so pretty, so I decided that if we had another girl then I would name her that. Good Luck with everything.

Maybe there is comfort in knowing neither Nevaeh nor Heaven are on Baby Center's top 100 for 2005. So though several people are saying it's popular, it's still not over popular like Emma. I think both are pretty. Kids can be cruel no matter what the name. I guess we just have to make our kids stronger than that. For the record ... I vote Heaven.

I think it is a very pretty and unique name. It is so hard to tell people the name that you chose before the baby is born because you don't want to hear their negative responses. I truly feel that you should go with it because that is what you chose and not worry what other people think! I would ignore the negative responses and feedback and follow your heart! Good luck!!!

I think it's beautiful. I would pronounce it NA-VAY-AH, but you can pronounce it any way you want! My girls have unique names and I think this one is unique. The only other place I've heard it in the POD guy's daughter and I'm pretty sure he pronounced it the above way. Though by virtue of sharing a celebrity's daughter's name, you may find the name becoming more popular. The main thing is - when you see your daughter's face, you'll know if it's the right name or not. If you and your husband 'feel it" then it's right. Congratulations on your new little one.

PS: My family was highly opposed to my oldest daughter's name (she's now 11), however, many of the loudest protesters have now come back and said, "I can't imagine any other name for this kid." She has to correct pronunciation and spelling on almost a daily basis - but she loves it. She loves having a name no one else has. I say - who cares if the doctor's office doesn't know how to say her name the first few times? They'll get it eventually (and if they don't - again - who care?) And, her teachers will definitely get it - eventually. I think she'll enjoy explaining the story of her name.

I got fancy (lol) with my daughter Rachael's name by sticking that extra a near the end. Drives me bonkers (short drive) when people spell it Rachel or when they see her name and say Rah-kell (not sure how they get that from Rachael) Anyway, just something to consider. if you have to put the pronunciation next to it then maybe it will be a hard name for your child to get used to. kids can be harsh on other kids for being the least bit different...but names are the biggest target. have you ever noticed that certain children are judged by teachers even before the school year starts..just by a name on a paper....people expect a child to be a certain way just based on their name....sooooo if you can deal with that and you can be sure you can raise a child who can deal with it, then so be it. name your child anything you like.

I think a name comes down to what you and your husband like, how it fits into your family, your region, and mostly...what you and your husband prefer.

I've been reading the responses that say it's very popular...I've NEVER heard it. Perhaps it's popular in the midwest?

I mispronounced the name myself just in reading the post (eg: Nev-ay-uh) -- which is also the brand name of bottled water. I have a strong suspicion that anyone not familiar with the name will mispronouce it. Remember that anything unfamiliar warrants a lifetime of teasing in school.

Mardell? last name? family name? certainly not the middle name....?

Something that works well for us is going outside the house and yelling the name in entirety as if calling a roaming child to dinner...if you still like after that, go with it.

Personally, I hate it. I read it and thought: Ew. Of course, one can always say: Well at least it's not Pilot Inspektor Riesgraf Lee like Jason Lee's kid.

I think that having a name that is not as popular as the norm is a good thing. When people hear a name they recall either a good memory about a person with the same name and they will carry those good thoughts to the person you are meeting. On the other hand I have never liked the name Crystal (or other spelliings of the like) so every time I meet a Crystal then I remember all the bad things and almost instantly don't like that person. I know it is unfair but I am being honest. If your baby girl has an unusual name then people will more than likely have more of an open mind and no preconceptions about her personality. I hope that made sense. :) Nevaeh is a pretty name. I wish you all the best.

I say that if that is what you want to name your child, then that is what you should name your child.

Just keep in mind that aggrivation that comes along with having to constantly correct mispronunciations or misspellings...and it is aggrivating. My son's name is Deacon. Doesn't look hard to say, does it? Dee-cun. But we have people call him all kinds of weird stuff! And when they hear it and try to spell it, look out! D-e-k-e-n...or D-e-e-c-a-n. It gets old. ( I can't imagine my son with any other name, though, to be honest!)

At any rate, it is ultimately your decision...pick something that you (and your kid) will be happy with...She will have that name forever...Make it good!

You need to do what feels right to you. You may not know what that is until you meet your child. My husband and I got a lot of comments about the unique name we chose for our son before he was born (saying that he would have problems in school with kids making fun of his name and so on). We stuck with the name and he does not have any problems whatsoever that way and he loves his name! If you love the name and it fits your child, then I say go for it! People will get used it and family and friends will love your child for the special person she is regardless of her name. I think the name is pretty. I have heard it before and think it is becoming more popular. I like Mardell too. I would definitely consider Mardell (as first or middle name) since that name is so special to you.

I don't think it should matter whether or not people say it wrong or spell it wrong...it's your choice and you should pick what you feel is right. To this day, people say my name wrong, but I wouldn't have any other name. I gave my daughter and unique name and people say and spell it wrong too, but she (who is 9) has always corrected them and never had any problems with it. I received some criticize over my daughter's name from friends and family, but I really didn't care because I loved the name. Hi M.,

I like the name - if you're prepared to have it mispronounced all the time.
My daughters name is Neva (with a short e - sounds like slang for Never)and people call her Neeva (with a long e). It kind of drives me crazy but I guess that's what happens when you give your child a unique name.
The way you are spelling it - I have heard it pronounced nuh-vay-uh. I've even seen this name and spelling in the gift databases and personlized items in stores.
I say go for it! Unique is so much better than common.

Follow your instincts and do what is best for your family. Personally, I never shared my name ideas because my experience with names is that anyone and everyone felt the need to give their opinion (even though the person wasn't asking for it). So we kept it hush until the arrival and then when they heard the name (and since it was already the official name) they didn't feel the need to critize it if it wasn't their favorite. :)

I will caution you with the unique spelling. My oldest son is BRANDAN because I took the first three letters of my husband's name (Bradlee) and combined it with the first three letters of my Dad's (Daniel). If you look at the spelling...when you add the "n" in the middle you can see and stuck in the middle of the name. I thought it was cute (and still do) but it is constantly misspelled. Despite that, I wouldn't have done it differently.

My cousin named her daughter Nevaeh and beyond the initial "what???" it has been very well received.

Best wishes!
