?Seizures?

I had a friend several years ago who's baby started having seizures at 6 months. They put him on big time drugs for several months, which turned him into a vegetable!

She is a RN and researched alternatives to the drugs. What she found was interesting: Metabolized B6 had been used to keep seizures at bay successfully in other cases of early onset epilepsy. She found a Dr. here in town who would administer Metabolized B6 and her son was seizure-free for over a decade.

The drugs on the market will stunt a babies brain development. As the result, they will progress in their mechanical development at a snail's pace.

I don't know where you can find this doctor, however, I CAN find this mom for you if you find that he is epileptic and you want to know more.

Infant seizures look different than childhood or adult seizures but that you can interrupt these sounds positive. I'm glad that you're going to see a doctor about this, though.

I have not experiences this. However, my coworker has an infant son who was having seizure like episodes due to GERD. His condition was so severe that it would cause his head to shake and his eyes to roll back in his head. Since they've put him on reflux meds the episodes have stopped. Don't know if this info helps but I'll pray for you and your little one that the doctors find out what's wrong, that it can be treated and that he is well.

My son had/has this same issue. From all the tests and from all that we've read, it is probably nothing to worry about. Some children seem to experience this when they are tired, hungry, or even excited.

For sure, get some tests done to be sure he is ok -- as well as for your own piece of mind as it can be very disturbing for us as parents. If he seems perfectly fine during and afterwards, just shaking for a quick second or two, and doesn't lose control of his bladder, etc. then they are probably not seizures (at least that's what we were told).

My son still has these "episodes" once in a rare while -- he is now 2 1/2 and in all other respects, perfectly "normal" and healthy! :-)

When my son was about that age, he did the same thing from time to time when nursing. I too was concerned about seizures and talked to the pediatrician. What the doctor suggested--and what I think it ultimately was--was my son just twitching oddly when falling asleep. He was never troubled by it, and it only happened a handful of times for a few seconds at a time, and only when falling into sleep when nursing (usually during late afternoon/evening nursing). It stopped by about 7-8 months. Our son is now 19 months and the picture of health, thank goodness.

I have never delt with anything like this before, and I can't even imagine the feeling inside you. Today is April 1st, and I will be thinking and praying for you and your son today. babies always do funny things when they are sleeping.I would'nt be to concernd. Have you talked to his Doctor about this.

Keep positive and an EEG will rule out or give you some other areas to look at. Don't be surprised if they schedule a MRI also. Check into efmn.org and contact them if you have questions, They are a wonderful organization!
I have a 10 year old who has epilepsy and is the most active (traveling basketball, baseball and football) there is. My Daughter who is now 7 went threw this when she was about two. At first it was just her head but it eventually became her arms and legs also. They ran a EEG and discovered she had epilepsy. No one else in our family has it. They treated her with medicine and after finding the right medicine the seizures stopped completely. I am happy to say she has been off medicine for a year now and seizure free. Our nerologist is hopeful that mabey she has outgrown it. If it does turn out to be epilepsy there are some great support groups as well as info out there. I can give you the email to the lady who coordinates the epilepsy events. Just let me know. Are you using different feeding positions? does he do it after all the positions. It almost sounds like his neck muscles are spasming. I would suggest taking him to a chiropractor and get him ajusted which will probably help with his sleeping too. If his neck isn't aligned he won't sleep well anyways. And nursing can aggrevate his neck as well.

One way to tell is to see if you can "wake" them out of it. If you can interrupt it then it's not a seizure.
If I were you I'd get it on video and bring it with you to the Dr. and they can let you know for sure.
One of my daughters had seizures at 5 weeks old and never had them again.

I have a friend who experienced this with her child. His head would shake while nursing. She took him to the dr. and they found nothing wrong with him. You may want to have him checked, though, just for peace of mind.

Definately take him to a neurologist right away.

it does sound like seizures to me my son has had them since eight hours old. How was the EEG? We see a great doctor let me know if you need a name. Liz S.

I hope your EEG went well and you got some answers. My son had some similar episodes when he was newborn but has grown out of them. If your doctor has not already recommended, you should also have the following tests done: EKG, blood sugar test, metabolic screening, endocronology screening. Seizures can be caused by a number of problems ranging from mild to severe. Best of luck and may God bless your little son with a long healthy seizure free life!
