He has a couple of guys he recommends for a mortgage loan officer. You could ask him about it. I am not sure if you want to stay in the Skokie area or travel elsewhere. We bought a house about 6 months ago and LOVED our agent, Suzannah Martin from Koenig and Strey in Evanston. LOVED her. She was friendly, easy going, direct, honest, and extremely knowledgeable. We had a hard time finding a house we wanted, and she very patiently showed us about 35 places in Evanston and Skokie! And when we finally did find a place, the negotiations ran into all kinds of problems. Suzannah was an awesome negotiator, and what really endeared her to me was that when it looked like the seller wasn't going to budge she advised walking away rather than paying more than she thought the house was worth. Anyone willing to give up her commission (and the many hours she had already invested) to be honest is great in my book! Just google her name and company and I think you'll find her website. I highly recommend her!

You could try a credit union. They are smaller than banks, and, in our experience, more personalized. We used New Trier Credit Union and had a very good experience.
