Seeking Tips on Conceiving a Girl!

Hi everyone! I am hoping to find some tips or even old-wives-tales on how to conceive a girl. My husband and I have the most wonderful little boy and we would like to also have the most wonderful little girl to add to our family! :) We're willing to try most anything, no matter how silly! Right now we are going by the Chinese Gender Calendar. (It's been accurate for our son and pretty much everyone we know!) We will be happy with another boy too - we'll get the child we're meant to have! But it doesn't hurt to try a little X-chromosome boosting!

Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Well, nothing worked. But that's okay, we have another beautiful boy and he's the perfect addition to our family. We knew we'd get what we were meant to have, and I'm so glad we did! :)

G.,

I agree with all of the "timing" things posted, it's what we were told too.

Also, we were told position matters - missionary for girls, rear entry for boys. (Sorry if that's a little TMI.) Again, it's about getting the swimmers where you want 'em.

Have fun trying!

I actually did a science experiment in High School where I tried to affect a hamster's offspring genders through diet. It worked so well I tried it with myself to conceive a boy, and it worked!

It's not fool-proof (nothing is), but it's worth a shot, right? Apparently, the x-chromosome thrives in an acidic environment, and the y-chromosome thrives in an alkaline environment. So, if you and your husband look up and eat foods that create an acidity (safely) - it should help influence that x-chromosome. We started changing our alkalinity (for a boy) several months before conceiving.

Here's a small list of acidic foods I found:
Corn
Meat
Beans
Fish
Fowl
Most grains
Coffee
Plums
Prunes
Cranberries
Distilled water
Eggs
Liver and other organ meats
Gravy
Broth made from bones or other animal parts
Wine
Yogurt with active cultures
Buttermilk, including buttermilk pancakes and biscuits
Sour cream
Most fermented foods and aged cheeses
Some B vitamin supplements (or foods supplemented with B vitamins) can make your stomach more acid
Hydrochloric acid supplements
Digestive enzymes

And foods that are more alkaline:
Most fruits, except as noted above
Most vegetables, except as noted above
Bananas
Chocolate
Figs
Mineral water
Orange juice
Potatoes
Spinach
Watermelon
Dandelion Greens

Good luck!!!

There's an entire chapeter on this subject in the Taking Charge of Your Fertility book by Toni Weschler. Check it out.

Also, you could always do IVF, and they can select the gender for you! ;-)

G., when we were trying for a boy, we were told to have my husband sleep in briefs (for a boy) and to sleep nude (for a girl). Something must have worked right for us, we have one of each. Good luck.

If you can pin-point when you ovulate, have intercourse on the days leading up to it, but not on the day that you actually ovulate. "Girl swimmers" are stronger but slower and are able to stay in the reproductive tract longer than "boy swimmers", which are faster but don't have much longevity. By doing this, you'll give the girls an edge to making it to the goal first, since most of the boys would have died off by the time you actually ovulate. Good luck!

check out the book "getting in touch with your fertility"

My husband found an article that said that women who give birth to boys ate 300 calories a day more than women who conceived girls. (My husband wants a boy next time around so he's trying to get me to eat a lot of cake!) I have no idea how true this is, but it's something!

It's true that having a little girl means you can dress them up and teach them womanly things when they're older - but it's ALSO true that your daughter will do everything bad that you've ever done but worse. Girls are smarter which means they are sneakier and cry more. They are harder to potty train and in general are harder babies. Then they are sweet and wonderful for a few years and then awful again during teenage years. Boys are easier!! Much!

I'm not saying don't try for a girl ... I'm just saying don't expect her to be as wonderful and easy as your little boy. I have two girls and three boys and by FAR boys are easier!
