Seeking Stores That Sell Swelling/support Pantyhose for Pregnant Women

A friend of mine just announced that she is pregnant and is due 4/1/2010. She is looking to find a store in Oakland County (preferably Royal Oak, Madison Heights, Troy, Berkley areas) that sell pantyhose for pregnant women who are having problems with swelling ankles & feet. She found some support socks @ Binson's Medical supply but was hoping to find something less expensive and less difficult to put on. Also, where are some reasonably priced stores in the area that sell maternity clothes?

What can I do next?

Thanks for all your help. Here's an update on my responses for those suffering with swelling too. Beaumont home medical on Woodward has maternity panty hose. Beaumont is always cheaper than Binsons. If her doctor writes a prescription for it -- her insurance will cover it,but it might only cover 1 or 2 pair or only the really support ones. Another source said, I believe JC Penney's have reasonable priced pantyhose for pregnant women. Yet another mom said, I was able to find pantyhose for pregnant women at Sears and they even have them in plus sizes if needed. Finally, the ones from Binsons are probably the best support wise. I have to wear custom made support hose and the brands at Binsons are the best in terms of support and swelling. They are difficult to put on, the reason being the compression. You can also find a compression tight (FUTURO) at Meijer. They are not as high in compression though. Have her check with her insurance company. Some will cover up to 4 pairs of compression tights a year if there is a medical reason. Being pregnant may count for that.

Slightly pregnant on woodward in royal oak sells used maternity clothes.. It actually has a great selection better than you will find at a new store.. fair prieces expect to pay $10 for a used shirt.. and maybe a bit more than 10 for pants..they might hae maternity pantyhose.

Beaumont home medical on woodward is another place that will have maternity panty hose.. beaumont is always cheaper than binsons..

I think there are 3 levels of support hose..

if you get the really supportive ones they will be hard to put on.

If her dr writes a prescription for it -- her insuranc will cover it ..but it might only cover 1 or 2 pair or only the really support ones..

I believe Oakland Mall still has Motherhood Maternity and they sell hose there. However, I feel she needs to check in with her OBGyn as she can cause a restriction in lymphatic flow if she uses the wrong type that she does not require.

If she is swelling too much and too soon, there may be a medical issue that needs to be addressed before something more occurs for her or the baby. It is not something to be messed around with right now. (I swelled more at the end and I was required for bed rest due to some issues occuring. It wasn't fun, but I did it for my baby.)

If is is minor swelling, she needs to elevate her feet daily and often. I'd also recommend pregnancy massage to elevate symptoms of this as well as morning sickness if she has any. (There is a bounty of benefits with pregnancy massage that I wish I was aware of when I was expecting.) But I would still get myself into the OBGyn to make sure all is well.

I was able to find pantyhose for pregnant women at Sears and they even have them in plus sizes if needed.
