Seeking Recommendations for a Good OBGYN near Southlake/Keller/Lewisville Area

I am moving to Southlake in a few weeks from California and I am 15 weeks pregnant. I'd love to hear from fellow moms about good OBGYN's in the area. This is my 2nd pregnancy and so far, it has been a normal pregnancy with no complications. I am willing to travel a bit so the office doesn't have to be directly in Southlake. Thank you in advance for your recommendations!

I just want to thank everyone for the many helpful responses and recommendations I received! I have decided to try out the office of Doctors' Mendez, Rost and New since they had the most widely positive feedback. You have all helped our transition greatly! Thanks again :) :)

My obgyn is Andrea Galusha at Lewisville Medical Center(office in Flower Mound, too). When my second child decided he was ready to join us on weekend night, Dr. Galush's partner Vicki Jo Allen was the doctor on call for deliveries and I absolutely loved her. I would suggest either one of these doctors.

Dr. Kilianski at North Texas Women's Healthcare is awesome. He is Chief of Obstetrics at Baylor Grapevine and has an office there as well as at 1141 Keller Parkway in Keller. The phone number is ###-###-#### and their website address is www.myobg.com. He delivered twins via c-section for me in 2002 and Dr. Vaughan assisted. Both were great, as were all the office staff.

Dr. Angelo Mendez works out of the Baylor Grapevine hospital, which has that wonderful womens' center. He delivered my babies #2 and #3, and I wish that I had found him before I had my 1st. His team of nurses is also amazing. Very friendly. I have no reservations in recommending him. (He was even featured on the news a few years ago as one of those doctors that loves what he does.)

Doreen Moser is located at the Professional building at Baylor Grapevine and she is awesome as well as her staff which includes to nurse practitioners. She delivered both of my sons and every time I went in for an OB check up I got to see them on the sonogram. She is very thorough and does a great job. Baylor Grapevine is a great hospital too! I have also heard good things about Dr. Flowers as well. Good luck!

My doctor is in downtown Fort Worth, so I can't help you with a recommendaton. However, my friend saw Dr. Wei who I think is in Grapevine. She found a lump in her breast, and he wouldn't listen to her. Since she kept bringing it up, he finally sent her for more testing. She had breast cancer in her 30s. I'd avoid him at all costs. Good luck with your move and your baby!

Hi A., sorry I don't have any feedback for an OBGYN but I'm just curios where in California you are from? We moved here from Northern California (SF/Alameda area) almost 5 years ago and are loving it. We live in Keller on the border of Southlake. Let me know if you have any other questions (which I'm sure you do). I'd be happy to help you out.

I use Dr James Peters in Grand Prarie, very north end of Grand Prarie on 360. I have used him for 8 years and just back for my yearly last month. Great staff, great bedside manner. He works with another dr and they have you see both drs at your visits so you are comfortable with two doctors. One of the two will deliver at Baylor Irving. Dr Peters delivered both of my girls and ironically we had the same assisting dr for both three years apart. He is at Medical Center at Riverside.

I see Dr Rost at Baylor in Grapevine. (same office as Mendez and New) Someone mentioned how great they were earlier and she is right! This is my 2nd VERY high risk pregnancy. My first child came 8 weeks early, and now 10 years later I am trying again and am at 31 weeks. Dr Rost has been great and VERY thorough. He was recommended by another friend, who also had a high risk pregnancy. Everywhere I go when I mention his office everyone says great things. The Nesting Place, nurses etc all rave about them.

FYI I have seen some good and bad notes about Womens Integrated Healthcare on here, and I am with the bad. I had 2 miscarriages with them, completely mishandled, misdiagnosed, and even TWICE billed insurance incorrectly, refusing to admit it and costing me over $1300.00 out of pocket needlessly. That was over a two year span. Now that I know what I do, I would never send anyone, ESPECIALLY a high risk pregnancy over there! Do yourself a favor and stay away.

I love my OB/Gyn she reminds me of Dr. Bailey on Grey's Anatomy. Her name is Carla Tabbs. Her office address is:
4375 Booth Calloway #506,
N Richland Hills, TX 76180
Phone:###-###-####

It is located in the North Hills Hospital.

She once did an entire vaginal examine on me while her one month old daughter was hanging from her chest in one of those things they have so you can carry your baby but still use your hands. So she knows about the stresses of being a multi-tasking working mom!

Hi A.,

I go to Dr. Flowers###-###-####)in Grapevine and she is great! She has 3 kids, I believe, and is such an easy doc to talk to. I have had to see her for a pregnancy (she was great!), but also for some ovarian cysts and she completed surgery on me. I felt at ease and am confident in her abilities. Also, I believe she went to Harvard so she is well educated. Good luck to you!

Welcome to Texas! I moved here two years ago from CA, and we love it here. I'm currently 8 months pregnant, and my OB is Dr Rost at Baylor Medical Center, Grapevine (same practice as Dr New I beleive). He came highly recommended to me from many friends, and so far it's been a great experience. He's very patient-centered and respects my wishes in regards to care. I had a problem with that issue with my previous Dr (in CA), who was very intent on pressing her opinions on me and brushed off what I had to say. The office staff and nurses are very friendly too. Congratulations on your growing family!

Courtney Walters in Grapevine is just great. She is my GYN and just delivered my grandson. She is smart as can be but also quite laid back, which is really helpful with all the concerns and fears you can have during pregnancy. My daughter, who is very picky, loves her.Baylor Grapevine is a great hospital and the closest to Southlake.

I go to Dr. Troy New at Baylor Medical Center in Grapevine. I absolutely love him! I see him at every appointment throughout my pregnancy, and he has great bedside manner. He takes the time to answer every question I have, and never seems rushed to get out of there. Yet, I never have to wait long at appointments. I'd highly recommend him.

Let me say that I recommend any of the doctors in the practice Mendez, Rost and New. They practice at Baylor Grapevine. I personally have seen Dr. Mendez for over 20 years. I echo what the person below says. Dr. Mendez has been when with me through everything.. two children, numerous M/C's and more.. I also have seen Dr. New and think he is terrific. I have seen Dr. Rost on occasion as well. He is a genuine man and a great doctor. I do not think you could go wrong with this practice.

Dr. Gordon delivered my son 19 yrs. ago and has delivered 2 of my 3 grandsons. My daughter had complications with both pregnancies, but he acted on every complaint she had.He did my hysterectomy 17 yrs. ago. I had suffered with pain for many years and seen at least 10 doctors, but no one could find what was causing it. Dr. Gordon found varicose veins on my uterus.I later found that it is very hard to detect, and had he not always been expanding his knowledge,it still would not have been found.I have always chosen docs that don't make me feel like they are trying to rush me out.He sits down when he comes in the exam room.I could go on and on.... but just google him!

I had Dr. Katrena Allen at Womens Integrated Health in Grapevine and she is wonderful. She recently had a child (about 2.5 years ago) so, it's all still fresh in her mind, too. She has a wonderful bedside manner and has a great team (her assistant, nurse and the phlebotomist are wonderful) they always make me feel so comfortable. Dr. Allen delivered our daughter 3 years ago and she will deliver our next child in November. I can't say enough good things about her.

I have not seen anyone else in the practice, so I cannot comment on the other doctors.

Good luck.

Welcome to Texas!!! I think you will love it here---
I see Dr. Angelo Mendez over by Baylor Grapevine... He practices with Dr. New and Dr. Rost, who I also have heard good things about. Dr. Mendez is an excellent OBGYN! I have been going to him for almost 15 years- he not only delivered my child, but also has delivered over two dozen other children whose mommies are friends of mine- several parents and women whom I taught with... as well as my nephew. His nurses, Bonita and Yossi are so pleasant and really get to know YOU as a person- I never feel rushed or like 'just another patient'. Dr. Mendez even got a new toy out of his office for my last visit for my son to play with and take home- they are so good to our family too. I can not say enough wonderful things about ALL of my experiences with Dr. Mendez. I have had to have some scary procedures done earlier on, and he is always so calming through it all- which is what I, personally, have needed. If you want more info, feel free to message me...

Hi A.,

I was in your exact same position when I first moved to Southlake. However, I was in an extremely high risk pregnancy and I am only in my late 20's. My first pregnancy was greatly mishandled by a Dr in Chicago. My son and my own life was put in risk. After extensive research and recommendations I met with Dr. Julia Flowers. Dr. Flowers did not risk anything and was the most aggressive of any OB I have ever seen. She never left anything to chance and acted on anything and everything. Due to this type of aggression I was properly monitored with perinatology and medicated as needed with my condition. My son was delivered healthy and I owe it all to Dr. Flowers. Not only is she brilliant, her bedside manor is impecable and she sees you personally every appointment and never makes you feel rushed. No nurse practioners. Only the Dr.

For the person who had the friend with Dr. Wai. I am so sorry that is AWFUL!! He reminds me of my old OB/GYN and I know a lady who also suffered the same complication I suffered with my first c-section with him. Someone beyond "rare" - he is in the same practice as Dr. Flowers. But in no way shape or form so they intertwine patients. Dr. Flowers delivers all of her own babies!!

I am going to comment on Womens Intergrated. My friend had Dr. Cope - my friend was also being told her baby was seriously ill by a nurse practioner and at 20 weeks had yet to meet Dr. Cope. She switched to Dr. Flowers. She is the 5th person I know to leave intergrated and move to Dr. Flowers. Having babies is so common here :) On the other hand my neighbor did have Dr. Allen and was happy there. The only person I know who was happy at IWH.

Good Luck with you move. :)

Welcome to Texas! I definitely do not recommend North Texas Women's Health Care. I'm not going to name any specific doctors. But, they totally mishandled my 2 failed pregnancies. My first pregnancy, I went to bed early, and my daughter came early. When we were finally successful in conceiving again, I had 2 miscarriages in a row. I know things happen, but I was given a misdiagnosis as to why. I was also told at age 29 that if I wanted to have any more kids, that I better hurry up because I wasn't getting any younger. That made me find a doctor that I really like. Dr. Unell with The FEM Center in Colleyville. http://www.femcentre.com/ He is great, and was also dumfounded that I wasn't referred to a high risk doctor when I got pregnant again. This practice really likes to use the more natural approach to medicine. If you are in need of a high risk doctor, Dr. Bannie Tabor with Obstetrix Medical Group is awesome. ###-###-#### http://ftworthmfm.obstetrix.com/ He is my doctor now. He also told me that my last miscarriage could have been prevented. Good Luck!
