Seeking Recommendation on MI Vacation Spot
Hello fellow moms! Now that school is out I was wondering if anyone could recommend a nice place for a family vacation in Michigan. We have a 16 mo. old and don't really want to drive more than 2-3hours from Skokie/the city. We also might meet up friends and try and do a cabin or rent a house kind of thing. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Last year, we rented a townhome in Saugatuck (Mill Pond Realty has a bunch of rentals online). It had a pool, nice deck. We really liked it because it was calm, quiet. It's close to Holland, which is also nice. I have also heard good things about South Haven, Grand Haven and New BUffalo. All are pretty close to Chicago.

You could try looking into renting a place in Union Pier, Michigan. I think it's like Exit 6, just after you cross the Michigan border, so it should only be a 2 hour or so drive for you. It is a beach resort type area, if that's what you're looking for. It's also very close to New Buffalo, MI. Good luck and have fun on your vacation!

I've been to Union Pier/New Buffalo, Michigan a few times. It's about 90 minutes from Chicago, along the lake and a nice area. It's not too expensive or built up, but it is touristy. It's mostly beach and other resort type stuff(shopping, mini golf, eating, etc.), but I've enjoyed it. There are definitely people who rent houses in Union Pier.

Try South Haven. It's a wonderful family vacation spot about 2-2.5 hours from suburbs with great beaches and restaurants. There are wonderful cottage rentals on or near the beach or you can stay at an Inn. We go there every year. Hope this helps
