Seeking Preschools in Ellicott City - Dunloggin Area

We are moving to Ellicott City this Spring and I am looking for a preschool for my 3 year old. She is an older 3, with an October b-day, so she is currently in a 2 year old program.

I have sent my info to St. John's and inquired at the Mom's Day Out in Oella, but am not sure that she will get in to either. I heard there was an open house, but too late.

Also, any pediatrician recommendations would be great!

Thank you!

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for all the advice! I called a couple places and received a call back from Mt. Hebron Nursery School today that I can get her in there, so I am taking it! She will be Tues, Wed, Thurs 3's. This really takes a lot of stress off off me - thank you all for sending a response!

Hi N.,
We currently have our 4 year old enrolled in MT Hebron Presbyterian Nursery school. They are fabulous and are located in Ellicott City. Their number is ###-###-####. Ask for Amy or the director, Robin. They both are great! By the way, my niece is enrolled at St. Johns and she loves it. Good luck!

I have a daughter who is 3 and we were able to get her into the RECC program at Hollifield Station Elementary School. We live off of Old Frederick and it is 6 minutes from our house. Also, there is a Goddard School off of exit 1B/C on 100 if you are looking for all-day preschool.

We are also of the St. John's Lane school zone, but only moved here in 2006. I kept my original pediatrician because we love him.

Good Luck with the move,
S.

Try Mount Hebron Presbyterian Church - they have a popular preschool program and fill up quickly. If you're willing to drive to Columbia (near the mall), there is Bryant Woods Montessori Children's House. It is an excellent school and the teachers are fantastic. My child has attended there for the past two years. There is also another school called the Young School that I've heard positive things about, though it is also in Columbia. Some of the public schools may also have a preschool program. Those are generally for children with special needs (speech, etc.) but they admit a certain number of "mainstream" children to serve as peers. I've heard its a great program as well. Good luck on your move and new addition.

N.,
I am trying to get into a program for my 3 year old in Ellicott City as we speak. I am also a part time nurse in labor and delivery! Where do you work? I work at Holy Cross but I am thinking of relocating to Howard County. Anyway enought of that. Saint Johns is good, I heard its very expensive though. Saint Peters on Rogers Avenue is a good school, they have a lottery Feb 8th I think and are accepting applications through this week. Glen Mar has a big preschool program, they have a lottery later this month. Howard County Parks and Recreation has a lot of preschool programs. There is a church I think called Bethany I think its Baptist, they have a program. Then in columbia there are preschool co-ops. Wilde Lake nursery school, Running Brook Nursery School, Stevens Forest (a bit far), Children and Company. The co-ops are hard to get into. I am on the waiting list for Wilde lake but they are much cheaper. They run the low 100's per month where as some can run 300+ per month. Tomorrow Running Brook (Feb 4th) has a lottery at 730 for the one spot they have (I hear its a great school). If you can get on a couple of waiting lists I am sure you can get in somewhere. Oh, also the YMCA next to LongGAte does have some preschool programs as well I hear. I hope it helps. As far as pediatricians...I go to Pediatric Associates - they have an office in Catonsville and Columbia. They are a big practice but I have been pleased with them.
If you have any other preschool questions or Ellicott City questions let me know.

We have our daughter at Children's Manor Montessori and have been please. We also looked into St. Johns which looks like a great program. We use Klebanow and Associates (sp?) and have been happy with their practice. Best of luck :)

You did good putting your info in at St. John's. My 3 kids went there and I've taught there the last 2 years (I'm currently taking a year off). It's a great school with a great reputation. Don't be discouraged if you are put on the wait list. I was wait-listed with my oldest, and still got in. Once your in, your in with subsequent children. There are other good schools for your daughter. There is Mt. Hebron and Glen Mar, and I would recommend them in that order.
As for Peditrician's we LOVE ours! It's Parnes May and Associates, and there is also the Ped's Center they are supposed to be very good too.
Good luck with your move, you're going to LOVE it here!

Check with the public school your daughter will be districted to. My son was in the RECC program at Ilchester Elementary and Running Brook ES. He also is an October B-day. The program was great for him and he loved it and I loved the price. He was in the 4hr day 5 days a week class but my friends daughter was in the 2.5 hr day 4 day a week class and she loved it as well. His teachers were great and the student/teacher ratio was excellent. The only thing is though, make sure you register early. When we did it they started taking apps in early February. Call your particular school though because not all schools have the same criteria for admittance. I totally recommend this program.
